So, while we still have some time before the draft...

... was wondering about some kind of scheme to "grade" all of our picks after draft day; something along the lines of 1 point for right round, 1 for right team, bonus 3 for right spot, etc, maybe even some "steal index" bonus related to how much lower/higher the picks ended up being (individual or cumulative).

Ideas?

That's sounds pretty good, the winner can be the person with the best cumulative +/-. (ie. if a guy you took at 50 was drafted 10th you'll get +40 points (50th - 10th) and for vice versa it'll be -40 points (10th - 50th))

This would be pretty cool!

And here's the recap for the Ducks :

12 - Mikael Granlund
16 - Emerson Etem
42 - Joey Hishon
102 - Brandon Archibald
132 - Mark Visentin
177 - Sam Carrick

Overall, I really like my draft. I got a little bit of everything...speed, skills, character, and I got my boy Joey Hishon in the second round? I hope the Habs consider him this year!

Good Idea, I think that we can all work with this one right here

:
20. Buffalo - Tyler Toffoli
68. Buffalo (From Atlanta) - Felix Liljegren
77. Buffalo (From Boston) - Patrik Nemeth
80. Buffalo - Andrew Yogan
98. Buffalo (From Atlanta) - Devante Smith-Pelly
140. Buffalo - Radko Gudas
170. Buffalo - Nick Czinder
200. Buffalo - Zach Trotman
209. Buffalo (From San Jose) - Luke Curadi

Any judges? I think DSP is going to be a riser come draft day, and if a team wants a tough guy, Gudas might go a bit earlier.

Only problem with this is it may not be fair for someone who have like 10 picks vs someone with 5...is there something we can do?

Ex: My picks were on average + 7 difference from the real deal

Sure, we can wait 5 years and then resurect the thread.

After all, the idea was not to predict the NHL Draft, it was to select the best players for each team... wasn't it?

Not that it was every really spelled out like that... but that's what I was thinking when I mentioned the bonus for getting the right team or spot with the pick. I tried to get players that I thought addressed T.Bay's weaknesses the best, and other people might have tried to determine who BPAs were. In the end, both sides could get some kind of bonus for hitting a nail or two on the head. +10 for calling a 1st, +20 for a second, +30 for a 3rd, etc (or whatever).

So Detroit did pick Sheahan. Kind of proud of myself there.

Let's see who gets some players right tomorrow.

Well, it appears Merrill wasn't a good choice at 16th.

I think Pitlick at 32 is still a possibility though.

Don't worry. There are always the 2010 Re-do drafts....that's where it counts the most...

I end up picking McFarland at 27 for Phoenix...seems that it wasn't a good pick either. But I have confidence in McFarland that he'll make a great player. The kid seems pissed to not have been picked.

I drafted Pysyk because Gormley, Fowler, Forbort were gone by my pick. I don't think it's necessarily a bad pick, but let's just say if things in this mock had unrolled the way they did in the real 1st round last night, I would have picked one of Gormley/Fowler. Still can't believe the stars passed on them. Not that I think Campbell is a bad pick, but they are really needing offensive defensemen in the system and you had two good ones available who were both likely BPA at that point.

thief50 also got Hayes going to Chicago. That makes at least 5 of us calling the right player for the team (including Gudbranson to Florida and Etem to Anaheim).

Watson and Howden were close calls.
