I don't feel like digging through the previous thread, so can someone post a cliff-notes version of what's going on?

give it a rest...we are watching them bail out a bankrupt team that lost $20m while finishing 4th overall, they have never made money ever and have had the lowest ticket revenues in the league for years, its highest local broadcast brought in 35000 viewers.....thats a lot of proof that it doesnt work and i have yet to see any that it does....4 playoff games aint proof.

last year the only game the coyotes made money at was the exibition game they played in winnipeg.

anyways....what a waste of effort that was....why did they even bother....if the NHL is willing to accept a CFD created some time in the future as a guarantee for losses why was there even a discussion...they voted unanimously 3 weeks ago to pay the NHL and reinsdorf $160m out of a CFD....why would anyone balk at $25m?...all this drama for no reason.

basically we are back at the same place we were the last time they voted....begin all the debate about revenues and legal challenges etc....if the NHL is ok with that then i guess they are dumber than i thought.....i cant see in any way how that is a guarantee.

i have been convinced all along that winnipeg was not a pawn because i know first hand the work that is happening behind the scenes in preparation, but if they really accept this as 'covering the losses' then maybe i was wrong.

hard to believe that they would use such important people as pawns to save a perpetualy failing franchise.

im still not convinced that its over.

Glendale has agreed to cover "losses" in the event ownership isn't stabilized in time for next season and the NHL is left holding the proverbial bag.

I saw the video feed. The attendance at Glendale City Council meeting was easily 60% Red Wings fans. They probably had $5 tickets to get into the meeting too!

It'd probably be more on the line of 2,500 x 75, but nice try.

Take a look at what is happening in Phoenix.
Now take a look at what happened in Winnipeg.

Do you really think they NHL treated both situations the same?

Pretty much what I expected to happen.

I knew the Winnipeg hype was a bunch of bull...it always is.

You can't be serious with this crap. The borderline abuse he recieves????

He didn't save any small market Canadian teams, he moved all of them.

For the record, I paid $120 for my Game 7 ticket and that was just the upper lower bowl.

It's not the same situation at all. Glendale has a nice freaking arena. One of the best in the NHL. Winnipeg did not, and still there current arena can't compete with Glendale's.

It's really not that hard to look up.

The Panthers have not averaged less than 15,000 in a year in 9 years.

And any team will struggle when the franchise has only made it into the playoffs once. (Thrashers)

To be fair, Bettman did do quite a bit for Ottawa, Edmonton and Calgary.

Although I do think it's a bit disingenuous to compare those situations to Phoenix.

My main beef with the interview was that he's almost going out of his way to deflect things back in people's face.

As I noted earlier, take the line "You don't know that". I mean really Gary, how many people are watching you, in Canada at that point. It's not even deflecting, it's slapping stuff right back in people's faces.

If the same thing happens to Atlanta, the league should save everyone the time and trouble and mandate Don Waddel be fired.
