Link? I was expecting about a 500k raise. This is very good news for the Hawks if it's true.

Title was misleading, now fixed.

JeffMarek: Bettman says the cap could go up $2million.

Yeah, Bettman mentioned it during his press conference. Can't say I'd hate that.

*shrug*

Doesn't really bother me either way.

I was kinda hoping it would stay the same, or even go down, because it'd be funny to watch the Hawks this summer.

But I'm fine with it going up. Gives the Leafs 2M more space to get some talent.

Good news for the players all around, certainly. And more opportunity for spend-happy GM's to throw money at their problems.

Russostrib Revenues up 4 percent. If NHLPA takes 5 percent escalator, cap could go up $2 million. Preliminary numbers, says Bettman. 39 minutes ago via TweetDeck

This is From Mike Russo, Minnesota Wild beat writer. Very reliable and I believe was in attendance for the press conference in Chicago.

Great, more revenue sharing and higher ticket prices, just what I wanted.

OT: just in time with the 24 + millions of profit made during the playoff run LOL

Could they not atleast wait till half the league turns a profit ?

Sweet, except the NYR were hoping for a 20 million increase.

Rising revenues - the cap goes up. It is what occurs when the cap is tied to a percentage of HRR.

You really did not believe Bettman when he said the lockout was for the fans and that the goal was to have affordable tickets did you?

Those howlers were almost as hilarious as the so-called "audit" conducted by Arthur Levitt that has somehow receded into history with a number of other less notable works of fiction never to be referred to again. When you artificially suppress revenues to make a propaganda point, the rising cap should not be a surprise when the real figures are now disclosed per the CBA requirements.

The revenues were pretty much what the NHLPA said they were.

Still skeptical, but anything that helps us keep Marleau, Pavs, Seto, and upgrade the defense is fine by me.

Well, good news for teams up against the cap with players to sign (ie: Chicago, Calgary).

Although, I thought it was already accepted that the cap was going up by almost $1M anyway. I was hearing $57.7M.

Anyway, I kind of wish it wouldn't go up, because teams could be in a heap of trouble down the road if one season it ends up dropping. It's gone up every year since it was introduced (if I remember correctly).

Well, nonetheless, it makes it easier for the Flames to sign White.

You gotta love how the NHL cap keeps maintaining itself/increasing despite hard economic times and dire forecasts. It shows the fans of this league are loyal.
