FO3 is the only one I played on that list, besides Oblivion.

I probably put in close to 150 hours into FO3, whereas I think I put in about 10 into Oblivion. I just can't get into the later at all, even though both are very similar, mechanically.

I guess i'm a little strange.

But really, I'm not the only one who thought Demon's Souls was fantastic.

Gamespot gave it 'game of the year 2009' across all platforms including the PC. it was up against the likes of Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age Origins and managed to come out on top in their opinion. I thought that was pretty cool, because most sites were giving 'game of the year' to Uncharted 2, so it was nice to see someone give it to something different for a change.

I gotta say its also probably one of the scariest games I've ever played. My nerves were shot half the time while playing it.

I'm playing one of those games currently: FF 13
I've got 5 of those in my backlog: ME 1/2, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Dragon Age
and I've got 1 on my to buy list: Valkyria Chronicles.

So I can't really vote but I'm really looking forward to playing them.

Voted for Oblivion but I also enjoyed Fallout 3. I have ME1 sitting there but haven't had time to play yet and if I like it then I'll pick up ME2.

Out of the other games listed, which ones are turn-based? I can't stand turn-based games....

I put Demon's Souls because I have yet to play Valkyria Chronicles, however, I've heard it's incredible.

My reasoning behind not picking the others ones isn't because they weren't good games, but there was so much potential for each one to be generation defining (except ME2, it was just flat out awesome).

Mass Effect 1 was redundant beyond belief. Mass Effect 2 streamlined the traveling/loading process a lot more, it didn't feel as much like I spent ten years waiting to get to the next world/mission.

Fallout 3 was just.. empty. I didn't feel like the combat was fluid or satisfying, and while I enjoyed many of the choice aspects, I preferred Oblivion which had the same engine and core gameplay concepts but DID have satisfying combat/gameplay mechanics.

Haven't played a ton of Demons Soul, so I'll throw that out. Final Fantasy XIII disappointed me greatly.

I couldn't stand Dragon Age. Too bland. Nothing memorable about it. I hate that battle system most of all. Give me real turnbased gameplay or give me real time combat. This MMO combat system crap doesn't do it for me online, why would it do it for me in single player.

People liked Oblivions combat but not Fallout 3? I don't get it. FO3 has a very intriguing targeting system imo, I enjoyed it a great deal. That clunky aiming outside of V.A.T.S. is what Oblivion is all about (unless of course you were a warrior class or conversely a melee specialist in FO3)

Because if KOTOR was on the list it would demolish everything else.

Anyway, voted for Fallout. Mucho style points, huge map to explore, 5 expansions...it's everything you'd want in a lengthy rpg, IMO.

ME2, followed by ME1 and DA. All were incredible for this era.

FO3 has exceeded my expectations but ultimately managed to bore me to death with the endless repetitive metro crawling and I didn't even finish it.

The rest of the list is just crap.

Im definitely going with Dragon Age.

Fallout 3 was a great game, but I think it's overrated. People think it's the GOAT, but the story was just.... average, at best

While I loved the game myself, doesn't that bolded part really, really accurately descript DA:O? I mean the setting is about as generic fantasy as it can get.

Not really?

I thought FO3's was pretty stupid...

The idea was to go out and find your father at first. Ok! Well you find him like 3 hours of gameplay later.

So... what's the point of the game again?

(I know the point, but the story never told you otherwise)

Oblivion by far, I find fallout is just an elder scrolls game with Vats and a fallout lore behind it. (Not to say that this is bad, but my preference is oblivion)

It's funny, it's my bday tomorrow so I've been getting bday $ from relatives, and I was considering buying Fallout 3 + Oblivion + xpacs for ps3.

I owned oblivion for 360 but not with shivering isles etc.

It's easy to oversimplify. In Dragon Age, a great evil is threathing the world and to defeat it you must embark on a quest to receive the aid of the elves, dwarves and mages and become the hero of the land. I dunno, pretty generic if you ask me.

I don't know if you've finished Fallout 3, but if you have you'd know that in the end finding your dad is not the main story of the game: it's the trigger that starts the journey of the Lone Wanderer. Not to mention, finding your dad after 3 hours of gameplay pretty much means you're playing the game "wrong", as in not exploring just running forward, or playing it with a gameguide. I was probably 15 hours in the first time I played this game before I entered Vault 112.

I think you're both doing a pretty good job of making completely disingenuous arguments.

Both games do not rely on originality, they rely on depth and a bit of trope subversion. Its those intricacies that make those worlds unique. Denying one or the other is fanboy slapfighting.

Agreed, I wasn't trying to deny that. I was just oversimplifying the idea of DA:O to demonstrate it's easy to make a game look bad with ridiculous oversimplifications. Such as to say Fallout 3's plot is to find your father and then nothing.

Fallout 3 is number 1 for me...

Than Mass Effect 2... and Oblivion is a very close third...

Oddly enough that is the order of the poll so far

Never played an RPG till I played Oblivion... I loved it.

I am a sci-fi junky when ME1 came out I played and loved it...

Fallout 3 cameout and owned my life, never put as much time in a game as fallout 3... all the downloadable content, the crazy characters... it was a blast.

The dark humor in it too, fantastic stuff.

Demon's Souls for masochists? I don't know. I would rank Mass Effect's side missions or elevators or walls of text as more brutal than anything DS had to offer.

Don't want to be punished? Don't die. Slow down, be careful, play better. Outside of occasionally being invaded by some level 9000 PVP monster and the entirety of World 5 (the absolute reigning, never to be defeated champion of video game hell), my frustrations with the game were fairly non existent. Most of the worlds are set up very well to provide you with short cuts as you progress through them, so even if you mess up, die and have everything respawn, it was throwing you bones anyways. Unless you messed up right before you managed to open the said short cuts.

One complaint I had was that the bosses themselves weren't difficult enough. Outside of those infuriating Man Eater's in 3-2, the rest went down on my first or second try.

Very well put. The game wasn't ludicrously difficult, but it required patience and a slight amount of strategy.

Most newer games get so far out of line hand-holding that I find it difficult to immerse myself in because I know it's not whether I'll beat the game or not, but how long it will take me (this was the case for DA:O, and Fallout).

I've played Final Fantasy, Oblivion, and Fallout 3.

Final Fantasy is easily the best, with Oblivion coming next. Fallout 3 brings up the rear.

So I just picked up Fallout 3 for the PS3 the other day, one of the few games I can honestly say I prefer on console. (Morrowind was far better on PC)

Anyways, I was wrong about this game, I gave it some more time and it's ****ing epic. (See old thread where I stated I thought it was 'meh' but I was going to give it another chance)

Well I played it a bit more for PC and really got into it, but the game kept crashing, so I went with PS3 and boy, I'm happy I did

For 29.99$ it's the best bang for buck game for the PS3. I also got Oblivion with Knights of Nine and Shivering Isles.

Just had a few questions because I have played and beat Oblivion before, how much content in terms of gameplay, new items, etc do the addons give? Is it just storyline/land, or does it add new items etc too?

Just curious cause I bought it for PS3, the 39.99$ version that comes with both, I loved the first Oblivion pre-xpac, should I love these equally or even more?

If you don't mind my asking, what does the downloadable content give you? I clicked downloads for the PS3 and it was blank, found it pretty weird.

Is it only for PC/360? Either way I'll probably do some research but just wanted some opinions on the new stuff the downloadable content gives you.

May I ask what's so fun about Fallout 3? Everyone keeps telling me it's an awesome game, and I'm thinking of buying it, but whenever I look at gameplay video, it looks like a lot of tunnel crawling and outside (ugly desolate areas) exploration, rather than action/fighting?
