I was up North that year. We huddled around a 26 inch and we charged a 20 dollar cover because opening the bar @ 0900 meant a 500 fine. We ended up being short 80 bucks but it's still, today, one of my proudest memories of being Canadian.

One thing that's really damn important to me and what I expect from the captain is that he can be sent onto the ice no matter what's the situation.

And I can't imagine a moment when Richie couldn't be on the ice. That's why he's Cannon.

I'm not First Nations (guessing that's not what you mean!), but yes, born and raised 100% Canadian girl.

Do we really need a petition at this point?

He's our captain for the next decade, definitely, and has shown why.

3. The kneejerk base who judge on past 10 games are happy with him.

Now why are you the only fan who is not?
I think I judge him fairly, though I tend to kneejerk against His deification here.

In these playoffs he has done everything you'd want from a leader.

But don't forget: he led an ultra-talented team to an eight place conference finish. One more save from Lundqvist and one less from Boucher and this thread doesn't exist. The Flyers came within a shootout of missing the playoffs with a lineup we (and everyone else) expected to finish near the top of the East. Not exactly the work of an unassailable leader, I think you'd agree.

Hmm 1.5PPG wihtout Gagne vs 1.43PPG with Gagne.

He also took out Krejci for the remainder of the playoffs, which was a definite boost to our chances.

You argue that he is defined on what he has done this last month, but even after performing great, you look to criticize it and credit it to someone else.
Okay. Maybe it was a dumb point.

Mostly George Brett. And the fact that they lost in the ALCS 3 years in a freakin' row to the Yankees, and finally took 'em out in 1980. I really liked that 1980 Royals team. Even Willie Wilson, who must have become every Phillies fan's favourite Royal...

Are you kidding? He did pretty much everything he could do as a 25 year old captain. You can't carry a struggling team on your shoulders when you have a new coach, new system, so many injuries...so on. How can you say he "lead the team to an eighth place finish". Get outta here.

Yes I have gotten on Richards at times this season, just like alot of players on this team, but he has played his ass off this entire playoffs. He has answered all the critics win or lose in the playoffs if he can take his game to another level in the playoffs. He can.

So when the coach sucked and the SYSTEM sucked and the injuries were a'plenty, it was understandable that he couldn't lead the team.

But now that we have a good coach and good SYSTEM and are largely healthy, he's able to carry them?

You're reaching.

Either he's the leader or he's not. You don't get to check the boxscore before deciding which.

Not that impressive if you're a Royals fan. If I'm not mistaken, he still holds the record for most strikeouts in a World Series....

actually him and i have been very cool. the team stays at the ritz carlton in atlanta like me and my wife do. weve had breakfast together among with others. but he has a bad habit of ignoring even kids at times. to one point he grimaced when lappy suggested going over to sign for some. just because there are ebayers out there that doesnt make it worse then them guys doing signings at sports stores. ive heard him tell a kid like 6 years old only 1 auto hell do... cmon you cant auto the extra small jersey hes wearing and a card? mike is def my faave player behind clarkie... but lets call it like we see it

NHL.com has also noticed Richie definately is Cannon.

You don't believe?
Go NHL.com videocenter -> channel: NHL Library -> Shinedown: Sound Of Madness -video -> 11sec mark.
(I don't know how to link videos from there )

he may not put up as many points as crosby or have as many highlight reel goals as ovechkin, but one thing is for sure.. i wouldn't trade him for either of the two.

I refuse to sign such a stupid statement.

Now don't get me wrong. Richie has been absolutely excellent this playoffs, he has lead this team and the team showed so much heart and resiliency. However, that is exactly the point. Richards should be unquestioned and should remain unquestioned for quite a while because of it, because of his and the teams performance, and not because of signing a dumb statement basically declaring blind loyalty.

Sometimes people need to be questioned. However, Richards definitely does not have to be questioned now.

A lot of folks are just to damn stupid to realize that mike leads by example on the ice, he is not the big interview type the MEDIA wants him to be....I like Richards, he is an absolute gamer that brings it nite in nite out.Bet your bottom dollar that cat has the utmost respect in the room where it counts.

The thing is that he gives a fine interview when he wants to - see his interview with Pierre last night. I'm not sure why he looks like a deer in the headlights sometimes during post-game stuff.

As for respect in the room...I think Pronger probably didn't respect him so much throughout the year based on his quotes, but the Olympics and these playoffs definitely would have changed his mind (if he had those doubts to begin with).

I think it's abundantly clear when he's comfortable with someone and when he's not. The Philly media has been all over him at times, so he's quite a bit more reserved with them.
