Many Russian players are smokers. Mogilny, Zubov and Zhamnov smoked. I'm quite disgusted by this though. They are supposed to be athletes, but they knowingly bring down their athletic level by smoking.

Maybe the KHL clubs should punish players who are caught smoking.

Well many of the Swedish hockey players are using snus, and no one really knows how that may affect you.

No different than many Canadians using chewing tobacco. Happens all the time.

Good for them

Big middle finger to the anti-smoking Nazi's. Smoking isn't any worse than drinking, eating junk food on a regular basis or indulging in any number of other vices. In fact, it's probably slightly less worse than many of those things if you think about it. Smoking and driving won't kill you, and won't get you into random fights at bars, and/or increase your urge to do dangerous things that your otherwise would never do.

Smoking isn't healthy, but no one lives a strictly healthy life. It would boring as ****. Yes I know these guys are hockey players, but I can guarantee you they're nothing more than casual smokers.

Im not a regular smoker but still like to light one up occasionally.

Tbh I┤m kinda tired of all the moralizing about smoking. Kind of refreshing to see those players take a smoke without any shame. I really doubt it will kill you to smoke a few cigarettes once a week or so.

Then again, I hardly think any NHL lever player smokes a pack of day. If you dont have the talent of Mario or Jagr, you wouldnt pull that off today.

According to actual scientific research, you're quite wrong.

No heart? More like no lungs. No wonder they can't win the best on best games with all that skill... many of Canada's elite players have marathon runner level VO2 maxes and the Russians have lung cancer.

This actually explains the decline of Semin - he started smoking heavily. Smoking reduces your ability to provide oxygen to your blood stream. He is ok for the regular season, but for the playoffs when the pace picks up he's become useless.

I've never understood why anyone gives a damn if some random person smokes. If they enjoy it, that's their choice. Obviously it's not affecting these Russians too adversely seeing as how they're playing at the top level of their sport. If they wanna light up after a game, more power to 'em. Playing Health Police on an internet message board is just freakin' sad.

I smoked and I quit, so I know the difference between smoking and not smoking. By smoking you basically get rid yourself of your top gear - not a smart idea if you want to be successful in a sport where the speed is one of the biggest factors.
