Uniform advertisements

How come teams are allowed to advertise on their uniforms for the world championships? It looks like they are playing for team "Skoda" and not their country. It just looks terrible.

I definitely wouldn´t complain about the actual WHC jerseys. Look at how a national team jersey can look in an non- IIHF event:

Now, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it seem like there are less ads on the WC uniforms now than there were just a few years ago?

I never knew 2 armbands and a sticker would make you think its Škoda and not their country, AMAZING!

why not.

Actually i think that advertisement is beautifull.
NHL jerseys allways looked sad to me. (i love NHL ! great hockey and great players !)

The better question is...
How come the World Junior Championship Jerseys don`t have advertisements, but the World Championship Jerseys do?

It's been like that forever. Skoda is the main supporter of the WC. Who knows when there contract expires with the IIHF.

Probably because the WJC's are a rather marginal tournament in Europe and no Canadian company has wanted to sponsor on the jerseys.

At least some of the WJC jerseys do have ads:

Isn't the cars in the stands and the logo on the ice enough advertisements? Why the need to paste a Skouda sign across the players heads? That is not very fashionable Europe

I don't mind at all.

Because it means that a going to a game is much more affordable and in countries like Switzerland, the money also goes into the hockey programme.

And as long as the billboards show good hockey, they can be billboards as much as they want.

I haven't put much thought into them, I don't know if I have noticed them at all. They don't distract me from the at all and they shouldn't distract anyone. In fact I feel the ads on the jerseys sometimes really belong to the jerseys. I can't imagine a HIFK-jersey without a KOFF-ad in them. It just belongs and fits to the jersey .

Y'know even the Premiere league (soccer) has ads in their jerseys. Maybe NHL could put some serious thought on putting ads on the jerseys. NA viewers would get used to them in few years, I guarantee that.

Commercial breaks every 5-10 minutes is way more annoying.

Frequent commercial breaks > Hideous uniforms plastered with advertisments.

IMO.

Ads on jerseys are better than the "Jack Daniels Goal Cam" you see on American TV.

And if ads on jerseys meant 10% off ticket prices, that would be a good deal.

Getting 20 minutes of hockey with jerseys with advertisments without a commercial > Seeing like 3-4 commercial breaks each period with jersey without advertisments

IMO

If the NHL went to ads on jerseys, they would instantly become the laughing stock of the continent. It is simply not part of North American sporting culture, and they would likely lose a lot of casual viewers as a result. It would be met the same way as the concept of relegation.

And I don't see why things like "Jack Daniels goal cam" are bad. They don't interfere with the game (they'd show the goal cam anyways), they're mentioned once or twice...it's a lot easier to deal with that then constantly watching ads on jerseys.

Why do Americans call them jerseys when the proper term is sweaters.

And if Europeans want advertisements on their sweaters why do North Americans care?

The proper term is jersey. They where only called sweaters back in the day when they where actually sweaters.
