IIHF World ChampionshipDiscuss International Tournaments like the WJC, Olympics, and World Cup, as they take place, or discuss past tournaments. performances.
And I don't see why things like "Jack Daniels goal cam" are bad. They don't interfere with the game (they'd show the goal cam anyways), they're mentioned once or twice...it's a lot easier to deal with that then constantly watching ads on jerseys.
But then you got your "Miller Lite Taste Greatness Starting Goalies", "Pizza Hut" and "Horizon Intermission Reports", "Bud Light Impact Players" etc. etc.
Sure, uniforms look much better without the ads, but as an SEL fan, I'll take those ads over mid-period commercial breaks and sponsored segments any day.
In fact, the Swedish Elite League doesn't even have commercial breaks during intermissions, since all regular season games are on premium channels.
However, some of the games in the SEL playoffs and the World Championships can be seen on regular cable in Sweden, which can be quite annoying.
The IIHF WC especially, where Viasat insists on driving me nuts with their ill-timed commercial breaks and phone-in competitions ...
On the other hand, I grew up in a Sweden with all public-service commercial-free television, so I might be over-sensitive.
Whether you watched sports, TV series or movies, there were no commercials (the downside being we only had two channels to choose from!).
I must have been thirteen years old the first time I encountered a commercial break, and they still rub me the wrong way.
On the plus side, we can actually choose to watch NHL games nowadays.
And I'd rather watch them with commercials than not watch them at all.
The NHL has 3 Commercial breaks every period. I rather have that instead of a "Pizza Hut" sticker on the front of the helmet, a "Bud Light" Sticker on their ass, a "Honda" sticker on their back etc...

By the way, enjoy your Hockey Night in Canada next Saturday afternoon.
Sorry, but when the guy quotes an obscure dictionary that doesn't even have "jersey" as an article of clothing, then his credibility ends there. There is absolutely nothing wrong with calling it a jersey. They stopped being sweaters long ago. Call me the next time you put on a hockey jersey to keep warm in the winter. The make and cut of the article determine what it is, not the sport in which it's being used.
As for the original topic, I don't see how two small sleeve patches and a sticker can make the game any less enjoyable to watch. It's not distracting at all.

Sorry you can call it a jersey. I'll call it a sweater.
Traditionalists call it a sweater. Younger people call it a jersey.
I hate ads. On the ice, on uniforms, etc. Yeah, I get the sponsorship point. Doesn't mean I have to like it. I especially hate when I see Joe Fan sitting around with an ad on his torso because his team has the same. It's the worst in soccer, where I identify teams by their corporate pimps. However, I can adapt. So it goes. That said, I really, really hate that I can't see names on sweaters. They are relegated to above the hips to make room for some ****** product below the shoulders. It might sell vacuum cleaners, but it doesn't sell the sport.

Reason: don't circumvent the profantiy filter
I've never grasped why jerseys aren't sponsored in NA simply because everything else seems to be sponsored. In a way it strikes me as somewhat ambivalent that in the home of free marketing shirt sponsorship is so frowned upon.
I agree that the jerseys look better without the sponsors logos plastered all over them, but then again it's pretty annoying to have all sorts of other sponsorship and commercial breaks ruin games.
I stayed up late to watch the sc playoffs when "my teams" where still in it, and I felt the commercial breaks was torture. Not only did I miss important replays but the commercials actually made me feel sick. I felt brainwashed and it took my focus away from the game.
Ads on jerseys is more part of the sporting culture me thinks. Sure it can look silly but I rarely think of them and when I do, I get more of a support feeling from them.
A related question. Skoda is the main sponsor of the event, but why do some teams have their own ads?
Finnair is probably a sponsor of the Finnish national team, but are they sponsoring the event itself?
In fact, I can't remember ever seeing a Skoda ad in the Finnish jerseys. Warsteiner used to be there for several years (another big sponsor of the World Championships back in the day).

I think each team is allowed one national team's sponsor's ad in the helmet and sleeve.

Yeah, I've never understood how these ads work. Some teams, like Latvia and Finland have domestic companies sponsoring them, while Canada has had Zepter (a general WC sponsor) for quite a while, yet the company has no stores in Canada.

Possibly because the Canadian hockey federation have no sponsors, or as this tournament is big in Europe and not in Canada, they can make much more money advertising for a European brand.
Who cares about how uniforms look like really, except for 12-year olds? Most NA jerseys still look a hundred times more silly with panthers and penguins and sharks and god knows what, and it always makes me cringe when I hear the announcers go something like "and this game is brought to you by burger king; meat has never been so tasty". If it allows the games to be played uninterrupted it's the way to go.
