There's no cutoff date. It's dependent on your peers' service time.

Yes, whatever you choose to call that typically passes in early June. We won't know what the actual date was until the end of the year, but it's typically in early June, which is why you don't see certain top prospects getting called up until the middle of June. It's not a definitive date, but it's easy enough to project and it plays a big role in when blue chip prospects get called up.

We trashed Appel when he was struggling, only fair to point out he pitched a gem last night: 8 IP, 2H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 SO.

His 3rd straight quality start too.

Soler hit one out in his debut? Guess you could say... *sunglasses* ...the sun has risen.

I think he already called him Derek Norris previously.

Chuck Norris, Steve Harvey, and Ted Bundy would be the GOAT rotation

In 2005, the Red Sox minor league system was ranked 21st among the 30 teams. Their top six prospects that year were: 1. Hanley Ramirez, 2. Brandon Moss, 3. Jonathan Papelbon, 4. Jon Lester, 5. Anibal Sanchez, 6. Dustin Pedroia. They’ve since gone on to accumulate 164.4 WAR. The Chicago Cubs were ranked 11 spots ahead of the Red Sox, at No. 10. Their top prospects were; 1. Brian Dopirak, 2. Felix Pie, 3. Ryan Harvey, 4. Angel Guzman, 5. Billy Petrick, 6. Renyel Pinto. They ended up being worth minus 1.1 WAR

I remember when Pie was going to be the next 5 tool star. Wiki says he's playing in Korea right now. I do remember seeing him with Pirates in 2013.

Reminds me of:

Oilers ranked 11th on the strength of Jason Chimera, Jani Rita, and Alexei Semenov. Red Wings ranked 25th because they only had Nik Kronwall, Henrik Zetterberg, and Pavel Datsyuk.

I wonder for Jacob Lindgren. Future dominant reliever or above average starter?

Fantasy question regarding prospects... who would you pick first: Joey Gallo, Julio Urias or Carlos Rodon? I know there's a fantasy thread, but I figured I'd get better input here.

Gallo: I'm worried that he'll have to move to right field, where his value would shoot down fantasy-wise. I know he won't hit for a high average, but will he be able to hit at all? I've heard Russell Branyan comps for him, and even though I don't like forcing comps at all, that sounds close.

Urias: He's only 18 and reached High-A last year. I think he has the highest ceiling of the three, but we might not see him in the majors until he's 22 or so.

Rodon: I don't know much about him other than he was the best college pitcher in last June's draft, he went to NC State, and is a lefty. Was he abused like most college pitchers? I'm also afraid that they'll use him as a reliever at first like they did with Chris Sale. The innings cap for a prospect is 50, so that could creep up in a hurry.

I want the best player regardless of position. Who would you pick and why?

I'd go with Gallo. All 3 are risky but while Gallo is the riskiest of the 3 he also offers the highest upside and is closest to majors. Light tower power but strikeouts are a big problem. Hovering around 40% is a scary. Tons of power and playing half of his games at Arlington is intriguing.

Urias dominared A ball is a teenager but he's also a small wiry guy. Sonny Gray is 5'11 as well but he's stocky. Rodon has tons of mileage, he scares me.

I don't think Gallo is that risky anymore. He really shortened up his swing and has 80 grade power. The hit tool is very underrated as well. It hovers around a 50-55 grade.

Don't take Rodon. If it were his sophomore year in college, I'd be drooling about him again, but a ton of problems have surfaced.

Why would you think it would take that long? Granted there may be a learning curve when he reaches AA and AAA but I don't think it's going to take him 4 more years to be MLB ready and the Dodgers aren't a team that's going to worry about service time and keep him down if they feel he's ready.

Urias' ceiling is not higher than Gallo's. Not in any sense of player evaluation.
