Its only been 8 games but Lawrie is tearing it up.

Hitting .441 with a 1.219 OPS.

I think he was quite undersold with that #40 ranking by baseball america.

I mean they had D'Arnaud as a better prospect?

I'd also have Pineda ahead of Hellickson.

Rendon's mainly played DH this season as he's recoveering from off season surgery but that's not a longterm issue. As good as Alvarez-Rendon could be for Pirates they would be extremely tempted with Taillon-Cole duo. Cole is close to major league ready.
I dunno man, I think having a Rendon-Alvarez in the hot corners, then add in McCutchen and Tabata. That has the makings of a scary line-up.

We've seen offense can really carry the load in terms of wins for a team. I think to start off, a la to break their cycle of ineptitude, they should just take Rendon and see those 4 guys hit the crap out of balls.

Yup. The Rays, if they pick BPA, will probably solve all and every pitching problem, in terms of prospects, they have with this draft.

Quick question, if the Rays draft a dude, don't sign him, do they get another pick a place lower next year or what?

But yeah, the Rays, with their scouting, should destroy a draft as deep as this.

Correct. That applies for team's own picks as well as comp picks.

Well it would be but from what I've read it's all speculations at the moment. You'd see few players head to college if slotting system came in. Stetson Allie got around 2.2 mill as a 2nd round pick. If hard slotting system was in place he'd only get a shade under 700 K. Chances are he'd be in college right now. 6th overall pick would get 2.3 mill under hard slotting and 7th overall would get 2.1 mill. High bonus demands aside, Allie wasnt a top-15 pick last year. Baseball draftees have a lot more power than other draftees (NBA etc.)

BA loves D'Arnaud. They worship Dee Gordon. You get that.

They probably viewed Lawrie solely as OFer.

They are going to have another top system soon with all those draft picks combined with their scouting. Insanity. (or madness!)

I actually like Dee Gordon.

It's so weird, the Dodgers system produces so many studs, yet their GM pisses them away so easily.

I'd take D'Arnaud. D'Arnaud's bat looks like a safer bet at the moment anyways. D'Arnaud has defensive tools to be a potential Gold Glover with a bat capable of hitting 15 HRs a year, good BA and a good number of doubles. He does have health concerns (his back). Perez looks like a guy who will do lots of things OK but wont excell at anything in particular. He has long ways to go, at least 12 months behind D'Arnaud development wise and from what I've seen of him and read about him there's nothing that suggests Perez could have higher upside. JMO

Awesome

Jays have really nice depth with their catching prospects.

Lawrie is wrecking AAA, but has 6 errors I believe.

The Jays are so stacked in terms of catching prospects (D'arnaud, Perez and Arencibia) that you dont even hear about AJ Jimenez whos a solid prospect. He's obviously the furthest away but the kid can hit.

Lawrie continues to mash. Hit 2 home runs tonight while going 3-4. He's now hitting .431 with a OPS of 1.225.

If he stays down in the minors all season he should be a top 10 prospect at years end.

Hosmer called up

Was absolutely raking in AAA Omaha.

Any thoughts?

So it begins. 1.107 OPS in 118 plate appearances in his first stint at Omaha. Little surprised that they are not delaying his arbitration clock (late May). Moustakas was a pre-season favorite to get the 1st callup but he's struggled so far. Move aside Kila.

With Marco Scutaro being injured, Jose Iglesias will most likely be called up tomorrow.

He hasn't been hitting well in the minors but I'm still looking forward to seeing him play.

Danny Duffy called up to the Royals.

Rumors about Ackley getting called up soon as well (but his stats aren't exactly eye popping). OPS is over 1.200 in his last 10 games though.

Jameson Taillon off to nice start in Single A. 1.80 ERA in 4 games, 14 strikeouts-3 walks in 15 innings pitched.

Manny Machado going quite well in Single A before his injury.

Bryce Harper is still destroying Single A as well.
