Where does that Game 7 rank?

I've seen a lot of Flyers games in my time, and after last night, I think the Flyers will need to add that game to their Top 10 Games DVD. While the two Cup-winning games have to rank 1-2 (nothing's better than a game in which, after the Flyers win, they circle the rink with Lord Stanley's Cup).
But where does last night fall among the Top 10 games all-time? Now that we've all slept on it, we can surely see it clearer. Below are the 10 from the DVD set in date order.

Quote:
05/09/74 - Bobby Clarke scores an overtime goal to win a playoff game in Boston. (Flyers at Bruins Stanley Cup final Game 2)

05/19/74 - The Flyers beat Boston and win the Stanley Cup! (Flyers vs Bruins Stanley Cup final Game 6)

05/27/75 - The Flyers beat Buffalo and win their second consecutive Cup! (Flyers vs Sabres Stanley Cup final Game 6)

01/11/76 - The Flyers beat the Soviet Red Army team!

12/22/79 - The Flyers set a new record for longest undefeated streak (29 games) by winning a game in, yep, Boston!

04/13/85 - Cherry-picker extraordinaire Tim Kerr nets FOUR goals in one period of a Flyers/Rangers playoff game! (Flyers at Rangers, Division Semifinals Game 3)

05/28/87 - Defenseman J.J. Daigneault scores the game-winning goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final. Too bad Edmonton came back in Game 7.

05/04/00 - The Flyers win a monster of a game when Keith Primeau scores in the 5th overtime period against the Penguins! (Flyers at Penguins Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 4)

05/04/04 - Jeremy Roenick wins a playoff game and a series by scoring in overtime vs. the Maple Leafs. (Flyers at Leafs Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 6)

05/20/04 - Keith Primeau & Simon Gagne beat up on the Tampa Bay Lightning in a playoff game. (Flyers vs Lightning Eastern Conference Final Game 6)

*Stanley Cup wins in bold

I'd take out the 6th or 7th on that list and put this game right in there.

The question is, do we bump one of those games off of that list to slot this one? If so, I'd probably vote in favor of bumping the Soviet Red Army game. As epic as that was, I don't think it's as important as any of the games in which this team has accomplished something of significance within NHL play, since that's really what matters.

However, if I have to just rank this somewhere in the best Flyers moments...I dunno. I'd have to say it is possibly just behind the Cup wins, but in all honesty, in terms of the sheer adversity and the absolute brilliance of the story of this year's playoffs and this series, it's almost singly more amazing than even the games in which we won the Cup....just because we almost overcame more.

If this team goes on to do it, this game immediately becomes the single most important in team history, IMO.

Agreed, I can't see how a game of this magnitude and how it all transpired shouldn't be in anyone's alltime

Don't sell yourselves short. This series, and its game 7, should rank Top 10 for the entire NHL. What a comeback, one for the ages, and a history maker for the whole league, not just for the Flyers.

2004 ECF Game 6 probably jusssttt trumps this one for me just because although we were down 3-0 in this one, at least we had a lot of time on the clock as opposed to that game where we were trying to tie the game for the entire 3rd period until Primeau did it with like 1:50 left and then obviously the OT.

EDIT: I should that the 03-04 Flyers team are my favorites for my lifetime, so I'm biased a bit there.

For me #1. If we win the cup, then that game should be #1 Overall in all of hockey possibly.

Overall #3 because Cups > all.

Good list. I'd agree it's probably not the all time best under the 2 cups, according to your list I would slot it #4.

I've been watching hockey since I was a child, going to countless Whaler's games and after they left, followed Sean Burke (yeah I know) once he went to the Flyers. They started to grow on me, and then when my job relocated me out near Philly, that made it that much better.

This double-comeback was bar none, the BEST game I've seen on TV or live, edging out the Brad Lidge close for a perfect season as the Phillies won the World Series.

My best personal individual pro sports moment was watching the rookie Whalers Sami Kapanen score a penalty shot against Boston's then 'flash in the pan' James Carey on March 12, 1996. What a move by the rookie, who later went to the Flyers.

The list is impressive but the DVD set shouldn't be taken literally. Some games aren't included, likely, because of lack of availability. One of the greatest achievements in NHL history was the Flyers' 1977 win in Game 4 at Toronto. The Leafs won Games 1 and 2 in Philly then lost Game 3 at home in OT. They lead by three goals and had a 5 on 3 late in the third period and the Flyers had three men ejected. The Flyers scored three times in the final five-plus minutes then won in the last minute of OT. That game surpasses Kerr's incredible feat and at least a couple of others on the DVD set.

Last night? When the Flyers beat the Caps in 2008, it erased many memories of the 1988 Game 7 loss to Washington. Last night erased the remainder of that distaste because of the three-goal comeback, like Washington did in 1988. Tough to say where this game ranks because of the historic fervor of joining the Leafs and Islanders. This game can't be disconnected from the entire series and because of that it ranks #3 on my list after the two Cups. However, as a singular entry, it is somewhere in the top 5.

Out of that list, I'd probably replace the TB game. Great game, but one of them has to go, and the others are too special.

Definitely a Top 5 game for me though, if not Top 3.

#1 in my life time. I have never been so pumped that I almost threw up on myself in a third period before. I have also never shed tears over a win until yesterday!

As a Flyers fan since 1996, I rank it #2. I can't really speak for any games up until that point because no matter how many replays of classic games you see it's one of those deals where you kind of have to have lived it in order to really appreciate it.

I still can't put it over Game 6 of the ECF in 2004.

Its easily the best thing I ever have seen live. Probably would of been the same if I just watched it on tv too. I wasn't alive for when they won those cups though, but for those who were I can see that being the best.

Oh, if we're talking in my lifetime only, then definitely #1.

I'd go so far as to say watching last night's win beat watching the Phillies win the World Series, mainly because I'm a diehard hockey fan and only a casual Phils bandwagoner.
