Word is high $6M range, $6.5-$6.7

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/cap...-re-signs.html

Solid in my opinion. Not too much $ either.

so...like 30 mil dedicated to 4 players in Green - Ovechkin - Backstrom - Semin

one of them will have to go unless they go ottawa style with 3 superstars and next to no depth.

This is excellent news for Caps fans, especially if he's locked up long-term and at that 6-7 million dollar pricetag.

He's the kind of player that could have seen an offer sheet this summer had he gone to restricted free agency

This is great for Washington if it's the case.

Backstrom-Ovechkin is going to be a great combo for years. We haven't seen a line/two players have such chemistry with one another like these two in awhile.

And this is coming from a Penguins fan LOL.

That's right. I wouldn't be shocked if Semin was moved.

Which is what I thought too, and made this proposal in a thread, got no replies to it thought.

To Washington:
Brule - Paajarvi - Chorney and 2nd in 2010 (31st overall)

Summary: Washington gets a top prospect in MPS a rising high upside brule who plays more physical than his size leads on and Chorney who is labeled as a 2nd pairing defenseman. Washington dumps alot of cap here and is a big factor in this trade

To Edmonton:

Semin - Erskine

Summary: Edmonton get the LW they have craved since and before Ryan Smyth left Edmonton, He has size and plays with size and is exactly what the oilers need Erskine is a 6'4 defenseman solid in his own end, perfect fit for the Oilers once they lose Souray.

I actually don't think the value is too far off. Also Mcphee gave away our 2nd round pick this past deadline so it wouldn't shock me to see him attempt to acquire one.

Erskine was out for the playoffs, seems he's been phased out with the emergence of Alzner / Carlson.

As a Caps fan, I would do that trade in a second.

no thanks from the Oilers...the guy makes 6M next year and is then a UFA...not trading any picks/prospects/young players for a guy who probably will demand a lot of money and won't want to stay here...i'd rather groom our own guys that will appreciate playing here down the road

Um....the Sedins?

If it's anything less than $7 million this deal will be a steal. Anything above $8 million would be pricey, but well worth it for the Caps.

hell yes!

Semin will be gone after next season. i can't see him getting re-upped for a long-term, big money deal when they have Ovechkin, Backstrom and Green already for big money. Those young guys are going to need bigger contracts soon enough....

It's probably something like 65-67 million over 10 years.

Don't like Fehr and Laich's game? Carlson? Alzner? Knuble? - Although Knuble is getting old.

Washington's depth is by no means is "next to no depth".

I think his point was that they won't be able to afford Fehr and Laich (etc.) going forward if they keep Ovie, Backstrom, Semin, Green long term. Maybe not next season, but after that things would get pretty interesting in terms of who could stay and who would be gone.
