Dale Tallon new Florida Panthers GM

Hi Hawk fans. Just wanted to see what your reaction to this is? Taking someone from such a successful franchise is a good move IMO. Thoughts about Tallon please, and good luck in the playoffs, you are my 2nd favorite team.

Good move for the Panthers. I've always been a Tallon guy.

Congrats to Dale! I've made it no secret that I was a fan of his when he was GM here. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for helping to build this current Hawks team from some on this board. I'm glad the Panthers are giving him this shot.

The team in the conference finals are a large part built by Tallon and he should get his name on the cup if they manage to win it. Good guy and has a nice eye for talent. McD sure knows how to alienate good hockey people with sycophants

Tallon will do really well for you guys. When he makes his first trade, he'll prove it.

I've always been a fan of Tallon.
A lot of the cap issues that the Hawks are now dealing with are from Bowman (Jr) as he was supposedly the capologist. So much for that.

The core of the team can be hugely associated to Tallon, especially the draft, where he built the core of this team.

The Florida Panthers are largely a pointless organization, but let's not let him foist Stephen Weiss or Nathan Horton on us, because every tenured Panther that someone trades for sucks.

He owes the team that much for this whole season that they paid him to golf. Let Huet wind down his career with Dale at the NHL Retirement Complex.

What was the story behind him leaving anyways?

RT @Real_ESPNLeBrun: Real strong reaction from Hawks players on Tallon today, obvious the affection they had for him.

RT @Real_ESPNLeBrun: Toews: ``When I talk to him I always remind him that we're thinking about him and we don't forget the contributions he's made to this team."

Ultimate sign of true character

Tallon is a average GM

Great at trades
Average at draft (Got better near end)
#### at contracts

I know the Tallon lovers/Mcdonaugh bashers are going to try and say he isn't at fault but almost every contract he gave out was ######## terrible

As for those that say it is Bowman's fault about cap problems. Dale is the idiot that made Campbell's contract structured at 7.1 mil a yr instead of front loaded thus making it more unlikely in future years that we could move it

Frankly Tallon's loyalty to his players was partly his undoing. Only a mental defective would want Havlat signed longterm.

I am glad Tallon lost the power struggle and we end up with Hossa instead of Havlat

Tallon is a nice guy but he should never have been our GM in 1st place. Only reason he got job was because he was a Dollar Bill yes man. Just like Savard dumping him was best for organization

And for all the BS about him building this team , He is only partly responsible

Sharp- Tallon
Versteeg - Tallon
Ladd - Tallon (Trading Smith's player in Ruutu)
Toews - Tallon (Easy pick)
Kane - Tallon (Easy pick)
Hossa - Bowman's (We know it was the Bowman's behind this not Dale)
Madden - Who know's ,,, When did Dale lose the power struggle and how much imput did he have in our recent FA's?
Kopecky - Bowman's
Eager - Tallon
Fraser - Pulford
Byfuglien - Smith pick
Burish - Smith pick
Bolland - Pulford pick
Brouwer - Pulford pick
Bickell - Pulford pick
Dowell - Pulford pick
Seabrook - Smith pick
Keith - Smith pick
Campbell - Tallon
Hammer - Tallon pick
Hendry - Tallon FA
Sopel - Tallon FA
Boynton - Bowman trade
Huet - Tallon
Niemi - Tallon

And for all the praise of his drafting only Niklas Hjalmarsson is an NHL regular outside of Toews and Kane from his drafts. His 1st 3 drafts are full of alot of fail!

Dale's a good guy and I am sure he will do better in his 2nd try as GM. But he is overated by people for the Hawks success.

The Hawks success is because of the death of Dollar Bill + 3 contribution of 3 GM's

What would Hawks look like if Seabrook and Keith were not picked by Smith?
What would Hawks look like if Brouwer and Bolland were not picked by Pulford?

There ,,, Those are my thoughts!!

Good luck Dale ,,, I am not about to rehash longstanding debate over Tallon during the Hawks playoff run!

He is gone ,,, Some supported that (Me for instance) and others didn't.

Probably worth sharing this in the main thread because you've got people there as well throwing out the "built a team from scratch" stuff.

Good for Dale. He got the short end of the stick here in Chicago, so it's good to see him getting another opportunity. I'm anxious to see what he can do with that Florida team that is stacked with young, underachieving talent.

Your hatred (and plain not understanding anything about) the Panthers is laughable.

I'm happy Tallon's here. We need the change in scenery, Sexton wasn't going to get the job done, shows the team is heading in the right direction.

However, BWC you are only talking about guys on the current roster for the most part- and when it comes to UFA signings and buyouts, I think you have to include those as well. I am not suggesting that any of those were gold- but they do add to the picture of what Tallon did as a GM.

Specifically I am meaning guys like Aucoin, Khabibulin, that guy that played for Detroit a lot (forget his name -but they dealt him last year or the year before -think he retired or something -for some reason I am drawing a blank ), Havlat, Smolenski ... guys like that. Even that Russian guy Samsonov ... I think too Vrbata, and Ruutu -what about those? I think the Aucoin turned out to be an awful signing and somehow Calgary traded for him... but it all goes to the same point that I think you are making.

Average --- but then again, did Florida have average before or below average? If below- then it might well be an improvement -but a GM is only as good as his (gm management) team too.

Wow completely forgot about Samsonov (Not hard since he wasn't noticeable on ice)

Are you thinking of Robert Lang? He plays for Coyotes now or Jason Williams (Last I saw he was benched by Wings)

Vrbata deal was horrendous as well. Inconsistant young forward with talent for a 4th line C (Adams)

Martin Lapointe is the longtime Red Wing that was bad here for a while before being shipped off to Ottawa.
