Swiss player Ronny Keller paralyzed after hit into boards

Someone please sit Patrick Kaleta down and show this video to him. Awful news, it looks like he moved his arms but apparently he is parlyzed below the waist. Brings back memories of Travis Roy.

that's scary, i felt the Weaver on Lucic hit resembled the Kaleta hit too... hope the kid will be able to make a recovery.

It looks to me like the guy who got hurt leaned back into the other player causing him to lose position sending him head first into the boards..

Very sad to see.

Yeah, the one where Pacioretty boarded the guy on the Islanders a couple of years ago? I agree with you...

Looks like he was trying to brace himself against them so they would both go into the boards together so they could battle for the puck to be honest.

I just feel sick watching this video.

Yeah, I agree. They were just far enough away for the worst posible result. I'm with you, it makes me sick also.

Way, WAY too big of a price to pay for playing the game.

Jeez, didn't look like a malicious hit, I've seen worse.....really is sad as to how thin a line there is between playing tough and getting crippled.....hope the kid recovers.

Unfortunately that is one of the risks you take when you lace them up (same can be said for football). It's just a sad reality of what can happen in fast and violent game. Best wishes to the injured player. I don't mean to come off as callous or cold, it is a tragedy when something like this happens but every now and then these things happen, they're not right or fair but it's reality. By no means am I insinuating anybody deserves something along the lines of these injuries.

Jesus! And that is exactly why charging was put into the rule book. You're supposed to ride em in anyway, ffs.

But in all fairness, Keller engages as well, and does so way too far away from the boards. This whole thing just got dicked right up. Who do you blame?

They were probably going too damn fast for that play to have gone off without a hitch anyway, but both did such a poor job of executing it. That's what happens.

Gotta play the puck and not the body in a situation like that. Tough in the heat of the moment and I wish everyone involved the best because this is just a game until it puts you out of commission like this play and that's a tough situation to live thru.
