If Canada goes out hard from the getgo, Russia won't have their men together yet.

They traditionally start games uninspired. Go Canada!

Canada 4-2.

Well I'd be surprised if Canada could pull this one off. Hopefully they can at least keep it close.

If Canada scores first this will be a great game.
Otherwise, well, then Russia will take it pretty comfortably.

As usual you forgot your sarcasm icon, although you were closer than most with your 6-0 Canada over Russia prediction at the Olympics.

I just hope for a close game, something the players can use as experience for future tournaments. But Russia can have this one after we beat them at the Olympics.

As a Canadian, there should realistically be no chance we win this game. If the Russians somehow lose, they should all commit seppuku in their dressing room after the game.

I hope Canada wins so Ovechfag shoves another reporter after the game. But if they win, the Russians will think that their good and we'll just have to pump them in the next Olympics AGAIN on homesoil.

I expect to see lots of bodychecks, and all the Russian 'superstars' get extra attention from their canadian counterparts.

I think it'll be closer than people think.

This is where Canada needs Hal Gill and Josh Gorges to shutdown Ovy

Not that many from Canada will be in the mix.. Russia has quite a few of their best players.. Canada has none of our absolute best (ie.. guys like Crosby, Doughty, Getzlaf ).. and just 3 or 4 of our very good players (Perry, Stamkos, Myers)

This game may be little more than a lesson for Canada's young guys about Russian hockey. An upset is possible but seems very unlikely.

I know it doesn't need repeating, but christ that Russian roster is stacked. That forward group is better than any NHL team's.

Only chance Canada has is if we can expose their D and Goaltending like we did in the Olympics. If we start giving their forwards space to create we're ****ed.

We don't need this win we already beat them in the Olympics and proved we are the best hockey nation in the world.

Is it more that he looks good or that Mason looks bad?

This will probably be sweet, sweet revenge for the Russians.

Varlamov botching it is probably Canada's only real chance.

I think Canada will play hard and score some goals. Their only chance of winning is if Mason has a very strong game and if they pot a couple of goals early.

I still can't see Russia losing this one though. Just too much fire power. I think the Russians really have something to prove and want to put an exclamation mark on this tourney by routing the Canadians.

I don't really see the revenge aspect of this game and I think the Russian players have admitted that any attempt at revenge will have to wait until 2014 in Sochi.

Prediction: 5-2 Canada.

In the last two WHCs, Canada iced a better lineup than Russia and still lost when the pressure was on.

Now the tables have turned.

Luongo was not the difference against Russia in the Olympics. The biggest difference is that in this game will be no Toews, Richards, Nash, etc... (players strong in puck battles) charging hard on the backcheck combined with Doughty, Weber, Keith, etc... (big and/or mobile defenseman) standing up the Russian forwards as they try to enter the offensive zone. Team Canada had Ovechkin, Malkin and countrymen turning the puck over left and right and then capitalized on the fact that such players have little interest in backchecking.

Canada will play its best game in this championship and have Russia a bad day they can do it.

4-3 OT Canada big upset, but not mission impossible.
