This has got to be one of the worst advertising campaigns I can remember in a while. What are they even trying to say? What is the point of the question at the end of the commercials. What if so-and-so didn't do this?.....Um then someone else wins probably.

I get that they want to impress upon people the drama of the play-offs, but those commercials do a poor job?

It's a great idea, and some of the commercials have been real cool, but they gotta make less and make them mean more, not these little mid-round, "2 games now let's make a commercial!" things. Major events, Montreal upsetting Washington, the Flyers comeback, hell, maybe even Franzen's ultimately meaningless hattrick are all fine. But stuff like this, with awkward questions and all? Keep it in your pants, NHL.

Yea, it is just one game.. and that was one save.. and at that point wasn't it already 3-0? So... if he didn't make that save it wouldn't have been a shut out? Ok...

It was cool at first, and it fit for the flyers comeback... but now they are getting silly.

Thing is, they've really jumped the shark a long time ago with these commercials, and give almost every moment their own "what if..." which takes away what's so special about it.

These commercials are great, except the ones they do mid-series. The one against the Bruins was great because it means something. History was made. But this series still has potentially 5 games left so What if Leighton didn't seize the moment means ****. Sorry its just annoying. Its not a jinx or a kiss of death, its just stupid.

All in all, I think the campaign is actually quite brilliant. They've simply done a few they shouldn't have, and this one counts.

The great thing about the Broad Street one is that the moment was fitting. You can do a Leighton commercial IF he goes on and throws up another two games and the Flyers move on. Two games in? Nah.

Some of the sayings could use a little work, too.

Well he is one period away from the Flyers playoff shutout record, so history will be made?

"And after 22 years...Raymond Bourque!"

That's just an epic commercial.
I like the whole campaign, but there are to many.

Kiss of death?

Someone should tell Halak that, the Habs won the next series after they made one for him.

Didn't hurt Dave Bolland either

I like it, too. They are overdoing it on their website a little bit and that makes the very few from this postseason that have been meaningful (the Flyers comeback one being the first that comes to mind) not seem as special, but oh well.

I thought "What if Leighton didn't believe in one last chance?" would have been better fitting given his prior struggles in his career.

Since the NHL did one about the 3-0 comeback against Boston, I don't think that this is the kiss of death. Afterall, it's not the cover of Sports Illustrated or an EA Sports game.

Yeah, seriously. Only one of these videos should have been made so far and that would be our win in game 7.

1) That shot was going wide I'm pretty sure, so I get a kick out of how they picked that.

2) What if Michael Leighton implodes over the next 4 games? Will they make an ad for that if it happens? I mean, WTF?

3) The historical ones were cool, the on the spot ones here have been stupid.

4) If nothing else, the spawning of viral fan videos has made this ad campaign worth it.

I actually really like the campaign but I agree that it jumped the shark. I think they should've just stuck with all of the old HISTORIC clips, and not anything from this year -- even if that excludes us.

I didn't view the Leighton one as focusing only on the two wins in this series; he "seized the moment" as soon as Boucher went down in the last series. What if he hadn't? The Flyers may not be in THIS round, in a position for him to make that flashy save (whether or not it was going wide).

For those that don't yet believe in Michael Leighton, he career has actuall been quite impressive. I for one want this guy as our #1 next year. I think we can sign him for under 2 million for 2-3 years. Look at his numbers, AHL Goalie of the year (with Ryan Miller and others winning that honour), .980 save percentage in 19 AHL playoff games. This guy is for real:

Awards
2007–08: Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award (AHL Goalie of the year
2001–02: AHL All-Rookie Team

Records
Windsor Spitfires franchise single season record for best goals against average
Norfolk Admirals franchise record for most career regular season shutouts: 18
Most saves in an AHL game: 98

Playoff History:

Season Team GP W L GAA SV%
2001–02 Norfolk Admirals 4 1 2 2.01 .927
2002–03 Norfolk Admirals 4 3 1 1.75 .931
2003–04 Norfolk Admirals 4 2 1 0.56 .978
2007–08 Albany River Rats 7 3 4 1.18 .981
AHL totals 19 9 8 1300 27 5 1.25 .980

It is a really tough comparison you are trying to make... considering Leighton won that award when he was what, 27? I bet Miller won it quite a bit before that age...

That being said, I don't see any indication that behind our stacked defense and great 2-way forwards why Leighton couldn't be a Tim Thomas. Even if he does well next season and fizzles out like Thomas did, we have our Tuuka Rask equivalent waiting in the wings.
