posts, inch of two from sneaking it through Vokoun. Czech played a good game, Vokoun was a wall. Ya can't win the WHC gold EVERY year

Olympic embarrassment.

Loses Art Ross to H. Sedin and Richard Trophy to Crosby and Stamkos.

First round upset to Montreal.

WC gold medal loss with the only stacked team.

What a year.

With Ovechkin, Semin, Kovalchuk, and friends making their annual pilgrimage every spring the Russians SHOULD.

lol Semin and Kovy haven't played well for the past month and a half. Besides, it's hockey and even the most stacked teams are only around 60-70% favorites in a given game, less when facing a star goaltender like Vokoun. They won it last year without Malkin and Datsyuk, same as the year before. Not a big deal.

kind of a cluster ****, I'd have to watch it again to really know what happened. Semin gained blue line, puck got poked off his stick back towards the blue line but not out, it hits Czech defender and goes back towards the offensive zone, Ovechkin and Fedorov are cutting towards the middle, Ovechkin gets knocked slightly, jumps to avoid a Czech player and Fedorov's right there and they collide.

  • Long shifts that involve bursts of activity followed by a lot of coasting on the ice, which as a leader set a poor example for your teammates, especially when the coach is preaching short shifts.
  • He makes poor line changes. This goes with the poor backchecking as he often floats over for a line change after a failed rush rather than attempting to break up the teams counter-rush.
  • His alpha-dog personality. If he lands a few big hits and starts intimidating the other team, he flies around the ice. If a team starts knocking him around, he seems to become submissive and no longer has a significant impact on the game.

All that being said, Ovechkin is the best offensive player in the game. No one can score goals like he does because of the physical skills he possesses; however, when the games get tighter he becomes a two-edged sword that can hurt just a much as he can help his team.
Along with the OP this pretty much sums it up. It's been frustrating to watch him for the last 3-4 months.

I actually agree. He hasn't been himself since like December last year. Something is wrong with him. I really hope Ovechkin brings in another attitude for the coming season, he needs to go the Fedorov-route if he want to win a cup in Washington, or end up like another Kovalchuk.

Threw another game changing hit today. Too bad it was on his own teammate. Not sure why he thought to skate at full speed into that area.

What's wrong with him ?? Before the Olympics he was great and after that he completely disappeared. He wasn't bad against Montreal but not Ovi good. And now this. He looks so slow and he's so damn predictable. Perhaps somebody should tell him that speeding down the left and shooting through the legs of defenders doesn't work anymore.

OV has lost his mojo and it's frustrating to watch. Hope he gets it back for the start of next season.

Russians win....even if Ovechkin had a poor game, this thread doesn't exist. So many haters when you're at the top of your profession.

I think it's more telling that Gonchar was the guy who blew the backcheck coverage...

He was never the same after the suspension.

You may want to check again as to when this thread was created. Nonetheless, when you talk the talk like Ovechkin does (cutting the Canadians loonie in half after WHC 2008 and wearing it around his neck and his Caps teammates said he was pretty boastful about Russian gold before the Olympics) you have to back it up. Team Canada embarrassed him and his fellow Russians at the Olympics and now that he has failed both in the NHL playoffs again and what was supposed to be a cakewalk of a WHC the chickens are coming home to roost.

Russian machine never breaks...

Wonder how his spirit is after not winning anything this season, 0 for how many tries, including individual accomplishments?

It might take more than himself... maybe a coach, mentor, or someone who can simply get through to him and change his game and attitude, hopefully for his sake.

His mom kinda looks like Yoda, and she obviously knows what it means to be a champion. Just a matter of time before she gets through to him on it. Or, they could try to get an older player to reign herd on the young guys. Wonder if Mats Sundin wants to come back?
