He is a UFA and is unlikely to be re-signed.

Might get some decent coin writing a book about this playoff run though

Yeah, sucks he didn't get more of an NHL shot, he seems like a good goalie to me. Maybe he will get a backup job somewhere

Now, SPORT-Expressen reveal that Backlund turned down, HV 71 and will sign a new contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
This was posted May 19:th, don´t know how reliable that is...

per teemu h from (euroflyers)

More signs of Johan Backlund staying in NA next year as now also Timrå has started to look for other goalies.

Thats interesting. I don't see him getting much of a chance with Boosh coming back next year, Leighton (most likely) getting a new contract, and with them bringing over the young Russian goalie.

Excellent! I'd not mind us keeping him aboard as the Phantoms starter and giving him a shot if needed next season.

Question for the experts.

Suppose flyers win that big silver thing. Does his name go on it? He did come in at one point during the run... no?

I probablly wouldnt mind a Backlund-Brovsky combo, with Brovsky taking over halfway through. The guy didnt do bad at all in the AHL, and in his first NHL start, was doing a damn good job against the Pens, who are used to destroying us.

90% chance he's coming back from 2 Flyers PR friends.

He hasn't been offered a contract to my knowledge.

In fact, I recall Holmgren stating that he wouldn't consider discussing things with Backlund again until after the playoffs.

All talk I've heard is that the Flyers were not interested in re-signing him.

Not sure what's going on, but if Backlund has in fact been offered a contract, he will stay. He's mentioned on numerous occasions that he wants a shot at the NHL.

Though things become a little more complicated with Bobrovsky in the fold and Eriksson on the way soon enough.

Wow, I'm surprised he's thinking of coming back if those reports/statements above are correct. I'd like it if he stayed in the organization but I'd also like to see him get a legitimate shot somewhere preferably in the West if not here, which I doubt would happen with both Leighton and Boucher.

Adam Morrison does not. He will stay in the WHL.

What to do with DeSerres and Riopel is the bigger question, and I don't have an answer right now.

I figured the one that the Flyers liked more would get an ELC and play behind Bobrovsky in the AHL while the other either got let go or was signed to an ELC to play in the ECHL.

However, tossing Backlund in there changes all of that completely.
