If Nashville had Spezza, they wouldn't be where they've been. Sure the value is fair, but Weber means a lot to their team. I'd say the same for Ottawa and Spezza. They need his offence.

Kuba is available, but Phillips will retire a Sen.

I think Weber is pretty overrated. I think he's good all around, great shot. He reminds of Souray but can play better D and uses his frame more.

I wouldn't give Spezza for him. No way.

Start with Spezza, add Cowen or Wiercioch. Add third round pick. Karlsson has too much value for Ottawa for them to give him up and Spezza.

But then again I think Weber is better than most do.

^^^ Weber is anything but overrated. That said, I would never give Karlsson + Spezza for him. That maybe his value, but losing Karlsson would really hurt.

If a 19 year old defenseman can lead the whole series in points for defenseman, imagine what he can do in his prime. He's too valuable.

Then there's Spezza. For a stretch, you really love Spezza and sometimes he can be very frustrating to watch.

Weber would be awesome on the Sens, but we need offense more than we need help on the back-end (if Volchenkov is signed).

About the same, if not more, as it would take to get Weber.

Spezza's cap hit is 3m more, if you take his remaining contract he averages 6.6 per year for the next 5 years (cap hit does not matter to Nashville).

Let's say Nashville signs Weber to a great contract like Duncan Keith(8,8,8,7.6,7.6).

Weber the next 5 years(assuming he signs a Keith type deal)
1. 4.5
2. 8
3. 8
4. 8
5. 7.6
_______
36.6

Spezza the next 5 years
1. 8
2. 8
3. 8
4. 5
5. 4
_______
33

My point is the cost for the 2 players will be the same over the next 5 years. The real question now becomes who is more valuable to which team. Personally as an Ottawa fan I would rather have Weber and try to sign him to a Duncan Keith type deal.

1. cap hit does matter to nashville for revenue sharing.

2. weber is worth the equivilent of 4 first round picks as he is an rfa after next year and if he were to sign an offer sheet that the preds wouldn't match would carry the 4 1sts price.

so it depends on what is worh 4 firsts to an ottawa gm. spezza would be nice, but he makes more next year than weber, so that hurts his value for nashville unless they take a salary dump.

i would think poile wouild listen to cowen, karlson, a first and a top offensive prospect if ottawa has one. none of the prospects above are worth 2 first round picks yet.

On another note, if we dealt Spezza for Weber we'd have a top-4 of Weber, Karlsson, Cowen and Wiercioch in a few years, but we'd have a top-6 featuring, um, Jesse Winchester.
hey, it's worked great for the Leafs

It looks like the price is too high to get Weber. I guess he wont be coming to Ottawa!

Nope

Spezza won't be dealt in a trade for a D. Frankly there would be no point it just creates one hole for another.

Karlsson won't be dealt because he's worth a lot by himself. I'd rather see how amazing Karlsson is at 25 than give him up when he's already disgustingly good at 19.

So what would it take. Probably nothing we've got. Frankly with the huge UFA D-Men market this year Ottawa is better off offering 4-5 years at 3.5M for guys like Z.Michalek, Seidenberg, Hamhuis etc.

Why give up a lot to get a valuable guy when we can go out and buy someone of quality without giving up anything? There's literally no point trading for D this year when there are so many decent contributing guys to sign.

How is he going to replace Weber? He already plays on the top pairing. Unless they clone him of course.

i dont approve of this trade at all but spezz and the rights to volchi might be fair for weber ....that way if nashville signs volchi it fills the void and nashville throw a pick or prospect back jmo

Trading for Weber would cripple the Sens upfront, not worth it IMO.
