I'm increasing viewing Powe as an ES liability, but at least he does a nice job on the PK. Asham is an ES liability, doesn't play PK, and with Carter back, I think we should have enough offense.
Hartnell has played well for 7 of the last 8 games now. He is on his horse skating, blocking a couple shots, fighting in the boards, creating turnovers, and making the occasional back-handed spin-o-rama pass to Danny Briere. His line has been on fire. Cut the man some slack, please.
Alright, I noticed that Carcillo was benched today. Not sure if he was injured or not, but I dont think he was. But my question is, why would Lavvy play Hartnell over Carcillo? What is the point? I just dont see it. Hartnell is been shaky for god knows how long and is completely horrible. He had one good play to Briere today.
So why doesnt Carcillo get the nod instead?
Dude, have you even turned on the games in the past 3 weeks?
That's actually not true. If it was, Laviolette wouldn't have kept Asham there as religiously as he has.
Who are the other options? It wasn't as noticeable in the late regular season, but Giroux has taken his game to the next level, and frankly his linemates are holding him down when he's ready to dish out a prime scoring chance. JVR is still a rookie and I'd love them to flourish together, but Asham has stone hands.
Not saying Arron has no purpose because he does bring a physical aspect, and that's why he's still there, but it's not like he has any offensive chemistry with his linemates.
Why would we change anything? They looked great. Giroux and JVR clearly enjoy having Asham on their line whether you agree or not. Hartnell is playing great right now and that Briere line is on fire right now.
Why would we break up our lines when everyone is clicking right now? **** man, no one is ever satisfied.
I've actually been really impressed with him these playoffs, he's cut the bonehead plays to maybe 1 a game, but everyone does that.
We need the extra big body as well. He's done some really underrated stuff along the boards the past three series and had a few great screens which is something that Carcillo can't really bring all the time.
All that aside, yesterday in the press conference, Lavy said Carcillo "will play more games for us".
I like Carcillo as much as the next Flyers fan, but I wouldn't mess with the line-up after how smooth everything went in game 4. If Lavy really wants him back in though, I hope he sits Asham instead of Powe.
I love Carbomb but come on Carcillo should be out.. He hasn't done much lately and he has a nagging knee injury..
This is pretty much the way I see it right now. Having Carcillo rested to deal with Eager, Brouwer, Byfuglien and the rest of the Hawks physical guys may be a blessing in disguise for him and the Flyers. He's lacked jump over the last couple of games and he's looked like a time bomb on the bench. I've been a huge fan since his Phoenix days but I can see the logic in benching him vs the Habs.
as much as i dislike the way hartnell played all season, the guy has been playing his best hockey all season last series and the current series... i was a bit surprised it wasn't asham or powe that got benched in place of carcillo, but they still won
The only way Carbombs is back is, is for Asham. Powe gets moved back up with JVR and Giroux and Carcillo goes back with Lappy and Betts to form what was one of the best 4th lines in the NHL when they were together. Powe, while his hands are awful, adds a lot to JVR and Giroux just from his speed alone.
If Carcillo's injury is still nagging him at all, I'm fine with him being scratched. But if he's 100%, I'd play Carcillo in favor of Asham, and I'd stick him right in Ash's place next to JVR and Giroux. Carcillo hasn't been particularly good of late, but neither has Asham. I love Ash, but he didn't have a great Game 4, and wasn't particularly impressive in some other recent games. The main reasoning for the switch would be that Carcillo brings more speed...there were a number of situations in Game 4 for instance where Ash wasn't able to be effective because he just wasn't quite fast enough.

Out of curiosity, why do you think Powe is a liability at ES?
This is pretty dumb. Im the biggest Carcillo fan out here but hes been invisable since the NJ series. Also isnt he nursing an injury to his knee? why sit a healthy player in Hartnell for a dinged up player like Carcillo?
Edit:I also agree with the "why break up the leino-briere-hartnell line" logic. No need to ruin what good they are doing, andHartnell has been playing better as of late.
If Carcillo is 100% healthy then he plays over Asham IMO.

If you watch the Flyers at all, you realize how valuable Powe is. He skates miles and delivers at least one bone jarring hit on every shift, sometimes two or three. He's like a linebacker out there and he's overdue to score too, maybe today's his day...
Hartnell is a no brainer to dress right now, Carcillo will dress again and I am sure he accepted the scratch without any fuss.
Now, as far as the future, Carcillo is good in role and likely to be a couple million cheaper. Hartnell is re-establishing his value but he is still probably the odd man out given his production and salary so it works out in the short and long term for the Flyers.

So...can we discuss this again after tonight? Asham was an offensive force IMO tonight (although he probably should have buried at least 1 of those 2 other chances), but somewhat of a defensive liability (he was the one who got burned by Subban I believe which led to the 4 min penalty). Either way, he definitely stood out. So now the question becomes: with a much more bruising opponent on the way, do you find a way to get Carcillo back in the lineup?
