Man, Holos is a minute eater. I really think he makes the team this season. He has a much better shot than Shattenkirk IMO.

watching him in the olympics, i think he's an undersized positional all-arounder. so not really either -- he'd need more size to be a first class defender, and more skill to be a first class offensive type.

hopefully he can bring solid, steady play to the 2nd or 3rd pairing. don't think he's more than that.

I know he's not tall, but when people call him "undersized" they should remember that he's supposed to very strong.

Holos has great positioning and skating. Not strong around the net and not great offensively. He may be strong physically but I find around the net he neither boxes players out or ties up their sticks.

If he can improve that aspect of his game I can see him being a solid NHL defender.

I agree. Also eliteprospects.com has him at 209 lbs. That's not small.

He's also to be as strong as an ox. So is some 6'3" swizzle stick that can't skate a better choice?

There seems to be a trend of short stocky players coming into the league. Shatty and Duchene fit this mold too. Duchene got pushed around a fair bit last year though. Then again strength was not his biggest selling point.

Holos reminds me of a smaller Skrastins.

Solid but won't be really noticed much. But we need someone like Holos or a FA signing that can plug into the 2nd or 3rd pairing and contribute.

No it is not. I'm not sure I understand you question. I'll take the 5'11 209 lbs that can play good positional defense and can skate any day over the 6'3 swizzle stick that can't skate.

I do believe that was his point...

"Size" is measured in more than just height. He was asking if a tall scrawny guy would be better than a shorter stocky guy.

I also believe he was asking the question facetiously, as it is pretty obvious that the stocky guy would be the better choice.

holos is right handed correct?

if so, i see this as another key reason that one of him and shatty will make the team next year.. especially if we are unable to sign michalek as foote is our only other right handed d man

I can't find the video, but Holos had a bomb one timer from the point against Canada at the IIHF World Championships in the first period. It was a laser. I mean if you look at the Norway roster you can't expect them to dominate, and I thought he looked pretty good for the most part.

Here is a good video of him though.

I really do think he's got the best shot at making the team, and hope he does, his dedication to the franchise even from Europe is awesome. We never expected Wilson to become what he did, I think some more of our prospects will surprise us and I'm on the Holos train!

I'd buy his jersey if he made the team lol

Hopefully with all these new guys next year the Avs will actually have their jerseys available.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of all of our prospects, except maybe Delmas as he's had some problems at times, but Holos is one of my favorites. He was about to sign with us last summer, but decided to stay over in Europe to play another year to get himself fully prepared, and make sure he was ready too make the jump. I have a feeling the organization feels the same way.

He's already shown great dedication to this franchise as have Chouinard, and all of our D prospects, it's a shame they won't all beable to make the team and play here, they all just are such character guys, and likeable people, I really want to keep them all.

Delmas wont be a prospect of the Avs much longer. Colorado has decided not to sign him before June 1st and he will reenter the draft.

elliot - michalek
shattenkirk - cohen
barrie - holos

i know it will never happen, but would we be the first team in NHL history to ice an entire D squad of right handed D? they seem to be rare these days
