This will help us get off on the right foot, unlike most proposals, where the team doesn't even need Kaberle in the first place. So, who wouldn't mind it if their team acquired Kaberle?

Being a Leaf fan, on the outside looking in, New Jersey and Buffalo seem to be a couple of teams that could use a player like Kaberle.

Just about any team could use Kaberle....

But I think the discussion really gets out of hand when the "Player + Prospect + Pick" is the perceived return value.

Just to rule them out Tampa dont, 1 year contract, I hope they make the playoffs next season but even IF they do it wouldnt be a deep run IMO. So it would be a Tkachuk to Atlanta kind of thing, costs a lot and really not worth doing.

The Leafs could use kaberle. They don't have a puckmoving d-man who can create offense off the rush. Phaneuf is average off the rush and has regressed over the past 2 seasons.

The Leafs need the assets Burke will get from him more then they need him. If Burke doesnt get what he wants, he wont trade him.

That said, I think Pitt and Buffalo could use him. Maybe Washington as well.

Filatov for 1 year of Kaberle(Kaberle is not re-signing with a Western conference team)?

Just about every team in the league beyond Chicago could use him with his current cap hit.....as for teams that actually need him / would be interested in trading for him:

Boston - Struggled offensively in the regular season & playoffs, would either let Seidenberg walk or look at a Wideman-to-Kaberle upgrade. However, getting Wideman at $3.8 doesn't hold a lot of importance for Toronto. They do have to consider themselves with a legitimate chance of resigning him.

Dallas - Desparately needs a big minute puckmover, but cannot afford to part with significant assets to get him because he only has 1 year left.

Philly - As good as they have been, they have had troubles breaking out in this series with Montreal's speed on the forecheck. If they dont' win the cup, I think they look long and hard at a Carle-to-Kaberle upgrade. However, getting Carle at $3.4 again doesn't hold that much value to Toronto simply because he doesn't produce that much cap savings. Decent chance of him resigning there.

New Jersey - Have needed a guy like Kaberle since Rafalski left and he'd problably have a good chance of resigning there. What they would/should be willing to give up can be hotly debated, but the reality is that they don't have a lot that really fits what Toronto needs so the package would have to be big.

Buffalo - Could have decent chance of signing him and he would be a good fit with Myers. Have some assets that the LEafs would likely be interested in (Connolly, Stafford, a first), but none that are REALLY what they need because Connolly has a big price tag and injury history (in addition to only 1 year), while Stafford is really an "in-between" 2nd/3rd liner.

Columbus - Could use him, but I really don't see what the Leafs would even want from the Jackets beyond something that includes Voracek.

Pittsburgh - If Gonchar walks, Kaberle could be a big piece for them because of his cap hit. He might also be willing to resign. The Pens do have some interesting assets that hte Leafs would want, including Goligoski, Tangradi and Staal; although none of them could get it done on their own. Shero would have to really believe in Kaberle as a long term player in Pittsburgh to give up 1 of those guys for him, nevermind the draft pick that would also likely have to be included.

Most importantly, Toronto - Makes for an incredible fit with Mike Komisarek and gives the Leafs 2 very solid top pairs. He's almost a guarantee to be willing to resign and having a defence that is very adept at moving the puck will be important because of the lack of size & cycle game up front.

I would say the Devils, regardless of whether or not they bring back Martin could use a guy like Kaberle. Only problem is they probably don't have the pieces Burke claims to be seeking in return.

We have all the top 4 guys we need right now and also we still do currently have cap problems, and he wouldn't help at all.

If Gonchar walks, that means the Pens don't want to invest that money in another d-man and are confident enough in Goligoski and Letang's progressions, so Kaberle's a non-starter anyway.

mmmm. Because they have 2 equally-as-good puck moving d-men in Timonen and Pronger.

This is why.

Look at map and tell me how "west" Columbus really is. Not too far from Toronto at all.
