The New Jersey Devils have signed their 3rd UFA of the offseason. Jordan Leopold now joins Eric Belanger and Joe Corvo as the newest Devils. Leopold's contract is 4 years at $2.5M per.

Hambius- pretty close to deciding.
Volchenkov- dead even between two teams. If either ups their offer 250k he is theirs, otherwise, I will probably flip a coin.

The other one I always screw up is Malhotra, look at the rosters I did San Jose. It is spelled wrong every single time.

I always noticed you spelt it "Malhorta" and for whatever reason it pissed me off when I read it.

It pisses me off too because I hate when people do things like Stall. To be honest, I had gotten used to it, and always read his jersey that way. Why did none of you correct me

The New York Islanders have made two HUGE signings....

Islanders sign Anton Volchenkov and Alexei Ponikarovsky

The Islanders have signed Defenseman, Anton Volchenkov to a massive 6 year deal, that will pay him $6.25 million per year. He will also be given a NMC for the duration of his contract. Although we paid WAY more than we wanted it was the amount needed to get it done and we feel we have just gotten ourselves the top pairing defenseman we have been looking for. He was my TOP target, I was not gonna leave this off season without him so I am very happy to get it done.

The Islanders have also signed Left Winger, Alexei Ponikarovsky to another massive 6 year deal, that will pay him $5.2 million per year. He will have a NTC for the first 4 years of the deal and then a limited trade clause, the last 2 years (where he selects 10 teams he will accept a trade to). Again we know we grossly overpaid but I dont care, I am very happy to bring in a player of his calibur and I am going to stick him on a line with Tavares and Okposo as our 1st line.

The Islanders are most likely done after this and its been quite the interesting game for the Isles. I usually stick with the re-build theme when I play as the Isles but I wanted to try out being an agressive buyer for once and thats what I did. I spent a **** load of $ and over paid on every contract I gave out but I dont care how much I spent I am just happy to get the players I wanted.

Have lost out on every FA so far... damn I suck at negotiating.

Waiting on one more, if he declines, we're kidnapping Ovechkin.

European Invasion Hits Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets are finished for this offseason, quickly turning a rebuild into a retooling phase. The Jackets managed to add two of the top defensemen from this free agency period, signing Denis Seidenberg to a 5 year contract worth 4.5 million a season, in addition to Seidenberg we also added Sergei Gonchar. Gonchar accepted a 5.5 million a year contract for the next three years.

The Blue Jackets also added two European forwards. First signing Olli Jokinen to a two year contract worth three million a season. We believe that Jokinen just needs an environment with no pressure to really succeed, we saw the ability he showed in Florida, and believe he will succeed here too. In addition to Jokinen, our big acquisition for the offseason is superstar forward Ilya Kovalchuk, who agreed to a 10 year contract worth 9.25/season. The deal comes with a NMC in the first 5 years followed by a NTC in the last 5 years.

Heading into the season our roster looks like:

Kovalchuk - Jokinen - Voracek
Berglund - Seguin - Little
Boedker - Horcoff - Bernier
Dorsett - Murray - Boll

Seidenberg - Pietrangelo
Gonchar - Vishnevskiy
Methot - Stralman

Mason
Garon

We believe this team has very high potential to be a playoff contender, we also have several youngsters coming through the ranks that will continue to bolster this roster.

Wait, has Willie Mitchell signed? I see no talk about him, and can't see where he signed.

I don't think so, but for some reason I thought I agreed to a 3x3 deal. But I think that was just in my head.

As far as I know he is available and negotiating.

Also, Kurtis Foster and Francois Bouilion are still available.

Foster will require 3 years at 2.25-3 million.

Two big signings:

First, Chris Higgins has signed with the Senators, for 2 years, 1M/Year.

Second, Willie Mitchell has signed with the Senators for 5 years, 4.7M/Year. We have a beast defense now, and a good offense still too.

The way I figure it, if they don't gel immediately it's fine, as long as the young guns get some playing time. If they end up at the bottom of the league it's just another oppurtunity to add great prospects to the system.

The vets I signed, aside from Kovy, are really brought in to take some pressure off the kids and give them an oppurtunity to learn the game without throwing them into the fire.
