Tomas Kopecky

Hawks may need to clear his salary. What teams could use him?

Center/Wing for bottom 6 who can fill in top 6 if needed (Started playoffs on our 2nd line with Sharp-Hossa)

6-3 203 Ib's (28 yrs old)

74 GP 10 goals + 11 assists = 21 pts even

1 yr with 1.2 mil left on his deal

I have to say... He stays with the Hawks. 1.2 Mio is a good Salary for him and he can play on our 3rd/4th line.
Hossa would be happy if he stays... or we trade both

I would love to keep him but at 1.2 mil he might be a luxury we cant afford

And I thought this thread was dead,,,,,,,, Nice to see it get bumped

I actually think that NYI would be best fit for Kopecky. Open bottom 6 spots but chance to play a significant role on a young team

I'd think you would hurt Hossa's feelings.

Last time I checked, 1.2m < 3m.

He's an affordable top-9 guy. I thought that is what the Hawks are looking for?

Better option is to let Ladd go, trade Versteeg (replace w/ Skille), and waive Huet and Sopel.

Hawks then walk into next season with same top-6 forwards, same top-4 Dmen, and same goalie.

Not bad.

I be willing to bet Bowman will give Ladd an offer, not the best one in the world but ultimately it will be up to him to accept it.

The real question is do these guys want to stick around for the home team discount or not.

If the difference is only 500k like in Ladds case I dont see why not. At the same time I dont see Ladd turning down a 3 or 4 year deal worth 2.5 or 3 when Bowman can only give him a 1 or 2 year deal at 1.5.

Kopecky becoming a 3rd line LW full time is always an option

2 things wrong with your post though

Hawks cant afford to eat bot Huet/Sopel's contracts as they would eat up too much tagging room and prevent us from being able to sign a full roster in offseason even with 10% overage.

I see Sopel either retiring , LTIR (Cap circumvention ,,,) or traded. He is a good PK/Shot Blocking dman so he has value to teams in need of improvement in those areas. Wont get much of a return but should be tradable.

Other problem is Fraser. He wont be back with Hawks. We have cheaper option in Jake Dowell in AHL who is NHL ready and Fraser hasn't seen the ice since 1st round vs Preds so it is fairly clear he isn't in our longterm plans

Not 100% sure but if Hawks offer Ladd a 2 yr deal between 1.6-1.8 I believe he will be UFA at end of deal

I could see Ladd being content with that (Or a handshake agreement that Hawks wouldn't prevent him from being a FA in 2 yrs if he isn't a UFA --- Cap circumvention like Hossa's retirement)

With the cap going up by 2mil next season the Hawks may be able to keep him. If not though Toronto is always a call away I would love to have this guy on the Leafs 3rd line.

Harding definitely has the $$$ contract-wise that would make it possible to get the 'Hawks under the cap with a 22-man roster. The Wild also signed their # 3 goalie the day after signing Harding, so it gives them the opportunity to move a soon-to-be UFA backup for some young assets such as a pick/prospect.

Meanwhile, I wonder which team the Niemi camp thinks will give them more than $1.5 million a year if he were to go to arbitration and become a UFA after the 'Hawks walk away from the verdict?

I think the goaltending issue will be resolved prior to Niemi's arbitration hearing.

we already have 6 centers so i dont think garth will trade for him but we do need a pk winger.

Why is this topic listed as speculation? That would indicate something more than crap you made up wouldn't it?

Shouldn't this be say "value of" so people would know not to click it? Of course it is started by BWC so many already know but ...

I think the Hawks may be able to hold onto him, even with the cap.

I doubt the Wild want Reasoner for Harding and Sheppard. At least not with only a 3rd as a sweetener.
