Defensive Pairings for the Finals

Toews, Kane and Byfuglien is pretty scary. Do we mess with the mojo and move Timonen up to play with Pronger to counteract? San Jose had no luck stopping these guys. If we do, is Carle/Coburn and Krajicek/Parent strong enough not to give anything away against the other lines?

Carle may not be quick enough to play against those three and I think the series will be decided by this matchup. Thoughts?

As much as I LOVE Coburn's play so far this playoffs, I don't want him and Carle out against Sharp and Hossa.
Plus, you don't screw up chemistry. Timonen and Coburn know each other by heart.

this is something to look out if we find ourselves down 2-0 after 2 games maybe, but for now we go with what has worked

Good point. Stacking your top guys on one pair isn't a good idea against Chicago anyway, they've got depth offensively just as we do.

Yeah, don't mess with the team right now. Hopefully Parent and Krajicek shows that they can be trusted with some more minutes though, because I don't think we can play our top 4 as much as we have been and get away with it this series.

At least Parent's been looking pretty good on the pk lately. We could perhaps let Carle rest a little bit there.

Why do you think that? They haven't been overexterting themselves even when they're racking up minutes, and I haven't really seen any signs of them getting tired near the end of the games, either. They get a little bit of rest leading up to this, and then there's nothing after it.

Don't be shocked if we try Timonen-Coburn against the top line and front Buff down low as opposed to doing battle with him. A lot of chatter is spilling out comparing it to what the Red Wings did to the LoD back in the day.

Chicago's forward depth is much better than Montreal's. Their third line will be much tougher to face. Ladd-Bolland-Versteeg is a little bit different to defend against than Pyatt-Moore-Lapierre.

Coburn looked really, really tired in the last period in game 5. Carle's shown some signs as well I think.
