What. I mean, MZA signed with the Rangers, so why even try to make a big deal about Pikkarainen being on the same team as him.

Also, Pikkarainen wasn't any good and barely played in NA before heading back home. I doubt he had much to tell MZA at all.

Yup. He doesn't have Knutsen's killer shot, though

Too bad we could not have signed Naslund 7 to 10 years sooner than we did.

Just got my MZA game used stick signed at MoDo Hockey "kick-off" for the forthcoming season.

I also accepted a jersey from Mats that he gave to the MoDo Hockey fan club Lumberjacks where I´m the chariman, in return for his jersey I gave him a t-shirt with our logo.

Should have told him he's wearing the wrong hat!

Awesome pics though

I´m about 1,80 but I look shorter due to a back problem.

More pics here: http://www.lumberjacks.se/?page=gallery&show=12

That is an NHL shot right there.

I'm very excited to see Zucc 6 times a year and in person.

I think he's more curious about whether Aasen's listed height is accurate. There tends to be exaggeration.

Is that 1.8 meters? Damn metric system

So you are 5 foot 11 inches, is that right? If so, then MZA may be closer to 5'8"

Based on the image poster's height of 180 (about 5'11"), factoring his back problems, I would say MZA is 5'8" in this image. Maybe 5'9" w/ hair I can see if he was like 5'7.5" and someone rounded the number down just as much as if he was 5'8.5" and someone rounded that number up.

Seeing With my Own Eyes

Unfortunately it's hard to get footage of most non NHL players and the further they are from the NHl the harder it gets. I really really want to watch a few games showing his shifts, the types of guys he works well with, how his skills might compliment current guys on the roster, etc. Unfortunately there's not much. That said watching his highlight reels, and especially some of the plays he made in the Olympics he plays a lot like gaborik. He is extremely smart and positions himself so that the puck seems to magically come to him. He's also a wizard with his Zdeno sized stick. If he passes and sees the ice as well as Gabs and MDZ (which they say he does) those three will be a nightmare for oppossing teams on the PP in no time and obviously we all know how BAD the PP has been inr ecent years.

While his 5 on 5 probably won't stand out this year I do expect him to contribute at some point on the PP simply by default b/c no one else does it.

I don't think 40-50 pts is unrealistic over an 80 game season if he stays healthy. That's an if but all i can think of is what gretzky said about being small but knowing the game well enough to skate and avoid hits. Swedish league isn't as physical as the NHl but lets face it...go look at games in even the 90's and the NHL is not currently as phsycial as the NHL (was).

Plus I hate to say it if he has half the skill he should have he will get the preferential treatment refs give scorers.

Anyway my biggest point is...with how BAD and inconsistent our PP has been it's a matter of time before he gets on it. That's where he should do his most dmg as a rookie. 5 on 5 is just a guess at this point. (Also first post by me yay). We'll just have to wait till camp and preseason before we can see with our own eyes how he plays. There are definite big guys available to play with him like Dubs and possibly Voros, Shelly, Prust, or Byers. Of course Anisimov will probably eat up Prust's time at the very least b/c as last year showed he's comfortable on a bigger line where he's afforded some skill AND protection. Gab will prob eat up Dubs time so unless MZA gets a HUGE promotion he will get the leftovers in Byers, Voros, .....Brashear......ugh.....etc.

Any sign of a big rookie year and i'm getting his jersey though I'm rooting for this to work.

Put together a little video of MZA.. I have som footage of him as a kid, playing in Norway... notice the jersey he wears

5 on 5... "unionline", Skrøder, Sundstrøm, MZA

And last.. should have signed MZA`s friend to be the 6th D on the roster.. just to watch his back But now, he has signed with MZA`s former team.. MODO!

Im ready to visit Mats in NYC! Cant wait!

Smootharello, you have hyped Zuccarello Aasen more than anyone on this board, and my god, I hope you are right. He is the definition of underdog... The country he comes from, his height, and weight disadvantage.

I really want to see him on the Rangers right away and will be happy with 20+ points.

Has he ever shortened his jersey name in any of the hockey he has played? Say 'Aasen' or 'Zuccarello', do you think he will sport 'Zuccarello Aasen' on the back of his Rangers jersey?

I love hearing any good news about this kid, because I really do want him to be top 6 forward on this team.

Really? I'd be kind of disappointed with anything less then 30, but we'll see where he fits in the lineup first and then I'll judge what I'll be happy with.
