Something that I haven`t noticed much discussion on in the Canucks forum here is what people think of the fact Calgary is having a winter classic at McMahon stadium next February. One thought I had was related to why the Canucks are not participating in it? Montreal has already been in a Winter Classic, and why not have the Flames face their division rivals from Vancouver?
So this is a poll, are you disappointed the Canucks aren`t involved? Are you happy because it could be one less distraction for the team next season after the Olympics apparently hindered us along with the record 14 game road trip? Or are you indifferent?
Well
As an oiler fan I think an Oiler V flames match would have been better--but as someone pointed out to me--CBC wants ratings out east--so that takes out both the oilers and Nucks

Kesler, to Burrows. Pucks stuck in some slush again. There goes Bieksa through the ice as he tried to skate through the large puddle to the right of Luongo.
I'd rather the Canucks play a normal game instead and not worry about potential injuries coming from poor ice.

Vancouver is their 2nd biggest draw. A Leafs/Canucks game would draw the most viewers.

I don't think many Calgary fans are choked. They play us 6 times a year, see us all the time and generally relish in our failure (as we do theirs) and here they have an "exclusive" on-ice event against a storied franchise like Montreal. They have some history with them- less than others, but I doubt most care.
I'm just sad we don't get to see the skate blades again, but if the Canada Classic becomes annual we're bound to get one soon (perhaps even next year). And the logical opponent would be Toronto, which would be a sick game. If it happens every year we'll play each other eventually, if not it's cool we'll see them 6 times anyway.
I have heard various reports on whether it is another "heritage classic" or not, does anyone know for sure if it is?
That could be another reason, on top of all the others, because Vancouver lacks a large number of alumni, and notable names. While Calgary isn't superb in this department, they do have a number of alumni that people do recognize compared to Vancouver. Obviously, Montreal is an easy choice in this department, as they have an endless array of old timers to choose from.
I think it's awesome for the game that Calgary hosts a game like this - I am disappointed its not against a natural rival like Vancouver as I would love to see us in a game like that. Might even be worth a road trip to see it live.
Flames vs Habs! Great throwback to two Stanley Cup finals!
Both those finals were awesome. I had the pleasure of watching a few games at a friends house in Calgary a few years back. Patrick Roy the rookie phenom, McDonald- the workhorse, Bob Gainey- they should rename the Selke after him.
Should be good.
A big no on BC Place. Its not cold enough here. Sorry.
It's a Heritage Game and I'm guessing that the old guys come on and play as well. If not, then there's no reason to have the Habs there as they lack star power.
the only way a "winter classic" works in Vancouver is if they build a temporary stadium at Cypress bowl or in Whistler. BC Place does not have any views.
