APPRECIATION: (updated info -- post #151) Sami Kapanen

According to Savon Sanomat a local newspaper from Kuopio Finland, Sami Kapanen will not continue in Philadelphia. He will return to his home town team KalPa that playes in SM-liiga, the first tier league in Finland. Information came from Kapanen him self so it should be reliable.

This makes me sad a bit. That Play were he got a concussion and still got to the bench for Roenick to score in OT is what Flyer Hockey is all about.

Here is to you Sami

GOOD opens up salary and a spot for younger players.

Thoreson replaces him immediately and it was time to move on.

One of my Favorite Flyers ever. (I'm not very old)

Like Riyadh said that play in the playoffs is Epic, and really shows team spirit. What players like Kappy do is what makes me hate Crosby even more. They take every hit and every ounce of pain and still pop right back up.

Cheers on a great career Sami, Sorry we couldn't get you a cup.

Sounds trite but Sami's face is what should be used when a "hockey warrior" needs definition.

Not unexpected but it does help the team's cap.

If this is true, then thank you Sami for your years of dedication to the Flyers.

While his skills have lessened over the past few years, his energy hasn't. I'll miss watching him a lot. There isn't a player on this team who has shown more heart than Sami.

I think it's a good decision though. And it's the best decision for the Flyers as well.

One of my favorite guys on the team. A class act both on and off the ice, a quiet guy who always led by example and was one of the toughest guys in the NHL.

I will miss him a lot. Good luck in your future Sami!

Thanks Sami for your heart and soul hockey. He gave us several good years, but it was time to move on. He'll definitely be remembered as one of the faces of the Flyers through history.

I love Sami.

Lead by example. He wasn't the biggest player and he was often bullied, but he never gave up on the ice. He was a warrior.

I'm guessing this means Thoreson will be resigned and assume his position. Very classy of Sami to open the roster for him and help the team get younger and better.

Best Wishes and G.Luck.He was a warrior and underrated playing every scenario including a fill in on D during tough times.
On another note, that frees up 1.25 million in cap space.

I can't read Finnish, does it say he's going to play there or coach or manage or what?

I'd love him to come back here and coach at some point.

I put it through a translator, here is the very rough English:

He is going to play.

He used to play for KalPa during the lockout season. During that season KalPa was able to advance from second tier to first tier. Also Adam Hall and Kimmo Timonen player for KalPa that year. Timonen and Kapanen played there because it is their home town team and they both have played junior hockey in that club. They also own part of the team.

Maby it´s Timonen next?

I'm going to miss the little dude. He personified what it means to be a heart and soul type of player. I'm glad (one of) our last memories of him will be his playoff goal and the reaction he had.
