Just met Lance Thomas from the Duke Blue Devils NCAA Championship team. (He's actually my aunt's husband's nephew.)

Really nice guy... And tall as Hell.

As much as I watched the Simpsons when I was younger, I never really sat down and went through any of the seasons.

Man I love it when we get Monday off.

Tomorrow's going to be great.

Cleaning up my office tonight and having some drinks. Or as I call it, the devils den. I'd love to hang up all my signed jerseys on the wall, but jersey frames are not cheap. A good frame is the price of another jersey But it's still pretty much wall to wall devils stuff.

And that's why drugs are bad.

I just joined my local YMCA and did a back and abs class there yesterday, and man did I wake up sore this morning. I could barely sit up to get out of bed.

lol you should have gone up to her and asked for her autograph...

you lucky ba$tard. on a nice holiday weekend like this, you probably had the ice to yourself. all I did yesterday was play on a slip 'n slide. and I got hurt too, because I'm getting older and im very delicate. my kids got me wet with the hose too and i got mad and went crying to mom.

I called and (I think I spoke with Nick) and he says it's not a regular thing and will be over like next week. Oh well.

IMHO, it's the worst open hockey in North Jersey. They never have it scheduled regularly and because of this, it never builds a following. There are never enough people, unless you like skating around doing nothing with like 1 or 2 other skaters. They also do things like cancel it at last minute, etc. and don't change the website and you drive there for nothing. It used to be good in like 2004 when they had Tuesday nights and it was always a good crowd and competitive.

I also have bad luck there. I've gotten hurt twice. Some Bosco punk checked me hard and I went down like a rag doll and hurt my shoulder.

The best place right now for open, especially during the summer when it slows down, is Floyd Hall Arena and Palisades Ice.

Skylands is the worst open hockey in North Jersey. One out of maybe ten times you go there you'll have two goalies.

Won our Tourney in Dramatic Fashion!

With hockey news slow these days in NJ land, I hope you enjoy this story. I'm still smiling and in disbelief about this and I wanted to share it. Wasn't sure if this deserved a it's own thread or should go somewhere else. Mods, help out.

Yesterday my Hardball roller hockey team, The West Wind, won the West Japan Roller Hockey Championship, catapulting us into national tournament in August.

Won our semifinal game 5-0. Had two goals in the game. My first goal came on a 2 on 1 break and a beautiful pass from our best Dman, who faked the shot then passed it to me for the easy tap in. Second came on a snap shot from the same Dman and I deflected it down with the shaft of my stick and it bounced in of the far post and in. Actually, my "first" goal was disallowed cause the snapshot from again same Dman went off my arm and in but apparently in this league goals off the body are not allowed.

Our final was insane. Down 0-1 after the first minute, we go ahead and were cruising 3-1 until the last 3 minutes of the game. They get a goal on a 2 on 1 break when our Dman gets tripped, no call and he losses the puck. Next goal came with their goalie pulled, 3 seconds on the clock and a mad scramble in front of the net.

At 3-3, my team starts putting their heads down. In our last tourney, we lost to the same team in the semis 4-3 with 10 seconds left in OT. We huddle up, I start yelling in English,"I'm not losing to this ****ing team again, so get your damn heads up". I think they at least understood my feeling. Go into non-sudden death overtime, if still tied after 2 five minute halves, we go into a shootout.

With 2 minutes left in the second 5min half, they score a goal that was a blatant high stick. The guy scored it with a sledge hammer type swing from over his head. After about 2 minute chat by the 2 refs(no replay of course) it's called a goal. Our captain says to me,"you want to come out?" and I say,"No, I'm not watching us lose from the bench. I'm putting my big Rican butt in front of the goalie and somebody, anybody please score!"

They announce "10 seconds left!" as we have the puck behind the net. It gets to the left circle, shot, save, rebound, save (my back is to the goalie and I'm trying to move with him)! The puck bounces in front of me and I try to put it in between my legs and it bounces out towards the right circle and my teammate is right there with a wide open net. As he puts it in, I hear the whistle blow. My team starts to celebrate, the other team is arguing no goal. The refs huddle for 10 seconds that seemed like an hour. Finally, one of them steps out points towards center rink, goal! My team, the crowd(it was our home rink) goes nuts! The goal was scored(and also our third goal) by a player we happen to get as a "UFA" from the opposing team in the final that kicked him out just 2 months prior. Because the NHL is not that popular in Japan, everyone kept calling him "Damon, Damon" (Johnny Damon) and I guess that made us the "Yankees", them the "Red Sox".

In the shootout, our goalie was awesome! Each team got 5 tries and we got 2 goals, they got none! We get the national bid and celebrated with beers and the greatest things ever, yaki-niku(indoor, at your table grilled meat!).
