Absolutely, I'd actually wait at the airport to carry his bags myself.

I heard he had a lot of off-ice issues.

Been there, done that. The worst captain in Habs history, no doubt.

We must go get young players right now, like Lombardi.
So Pierre Turgeon was a better captain??? Um...no.

As long as he stays on the 3rd line then I see no problem. The problem is that he went on a scoring rampage in the 2nd half of 06-07 and teams/fans expected a lot more out of him.

He is a good two-way player that is good on the PK and can chip in 15 goals a season. If no one wants him why not give him $1 million?

I would offer him 500K and ban him from all saq's and St.Laurent street.

I really love Saku with all fibers of my soul (no homo ) but the ship has sailed. It'd be a step back, and we likely would have to make him captain which would disturb chemistry and disrespect all the current captaincy candidates who worked hard to bring this team further than Koivu ever has.

Try not to kill him with your car though.

That sounds good and might leave him with more money at the end of the year than if he was paid $3M but had no restrictions on his night life.

What about Richard Zednik, Michael Ryder and Yann Bulis?

Higgins is the epidome of the average player, we don't need him.

I would take him back at 1M for the 3rd line but I think he will sign with Toronto to be with his ****boy Komo.

He'll be cheapER but I doubt he's only getting the league minimum. I'd love him as a 3rd liner who can play PK, some PP and move up when needed. I'd be prepared to spend $1.5-2.

I've seen a few posters say this, but I don't think that would be the case. From what I've heard, Koivu fit in quite nicely with the Ducks, and he wasn't given the C. I don't think there would be a problem with the chemistry of the team if Koivu came back. Especially since there has been so many changes. The team is totally different now than it was when Koivu left.

I don't think this is a question that fans can answer. Rather, it's clear something happened with Higgins for his game to completely disappear as it did. The Montreal front office ought to have insight here. If the issues can or have been rectified, then Higgins would be a terrific signing and, in many ways, is precisely what Montreal needs.

If, on the other hand, Higgins' off-ice issues continue to be something that plague him, then adding a potentially distraction to the lockerroom would be doing the team a disservice and the organization ought to steer clear regardless of the salary and potential upside.

Pretty cut and dry situation, I think.

He scored 8 goals this year, which is HALF what you estimated.

You're right that he killed penalties pretty well.

Still, he would be fourth line material, I doubt he would accept $750k or something like that, and there is no need to take a BIG chance that whatever has killed his productivity is still a factor.

Higgins and Plekanec on the PK = <333

I would definitely won't be against bringing him back on the 3rd line

I expect Higgins to end up in Toronto, he'll sign for cheap, short term and score 30 goals...lol

I'm sure he'd love to play for the team that traded him away, and deal with the constant rumors and expectations he got away from.

Tanguay - Koivu - Higgins line would cost us less than 5M compared to 12M 2 years ago.

So because he scores 8 goals once and more than 20 3 times, he can't score 15? I think it's possible. And I think it's even more possible if he went to the Habs, it would be like a second chance and he would grasp the opportunity.

But there's no doubt the secondary scoring could use an upgrade, and it would have to be cheap. With that in mind, what do you think of bringing Chris Higgins back?

It's obvious a guy doesn't just put up twenty-plus goals in his first three NHL seasons, then fall off the radar, unless he's got some issue outside hockey. Some say Higgins head got to big, some say he partied too much. But I wonder now that he's been humbled by getting traded twice in a single year, if he's come back down to earth? Maybe his falling star might make him reestablish his priorities. He's fast, can put up points when he's on his game and is very good defensively. He's not small either. We saw some of the best of him just before he was traded, when Carbo had realized he's not a top line player and started using him on the third. I think he'd be a good addition to the Habs third line, and based on his poor showing in the last couple of years, would probably come cheap. Of course, that's ONLY if he's dealt with whatever problems that took him off his game in the first place.

First off, congrats for having the guts to put this up on this board which IS VICIOUS with any and all ex-players not named Koivu. (he seems to get a pass for some reason or another). I thought of putting up something similar but feared the backlash ...... To tell you the truth I'm surprised with the reaction so far.

I too would love to see him re-sign here in a 3rd liner/penalty killing role if the price is right and all his off-ice problems have been resolved. (whatever they were)
I thought he played well and HARD every game, he just wasn't getting the bounces some times and/or expectations as a first liner were too high.

Would really like to see this as one of signings in July.

A Lapierre-Moore-Higgins line can be pretty effective and can score goals
