Ok, so this thing won't let me make a poll for some reason, so we'll have to do this the old fashioned way.
I'm done up to my pick at #8. Instead of naming who my pick would be (not that i'm 100% yet) and trying to cover it up, or picking someone I wouldn't pick to try to throw everything off, I've decided to let the league decide who i would pick. There are 5 guys I would be comfortable taking at this spot. They are..
M. Afinogenov - C. MacArthur - P. Kessel
D. Tucker - R. Potulny - D. Jones
M. Pouliot - K. Newbury - J. Sim
C. Minard - C. Paddock - A. Thuresson
K. Yandle - S. Staios
S. Hannan - R. Parent
M. Methot - J. Woywitka
My Prospect Roster currently looks like this..
J. Abdelkader - C. Hodgson - M. Halischuk
M. Calvert - T. Ennis - D. Mitchell
R. Clune - S. Timmins - J. Livingston
D. Towes - A. Nigro - B. Froese
D. Kulikov - J. Blum
S. Elliott - M. Katic
K. Seabrook - T. Peckham
My Draft Track Record is as follows...
1st Round - 8th Overall - Dimitry Kulikov - D - Drummondville (QMJHL)
2nd Round - 32nd Overall - Stefan Elliott - D - Saskatoon (WHL)
1st Round - 7th Overall - Cody Hodgson - C - Brampton (OHL)
1st Round - 29th Overall - David Toews - FW - Shattuck St. Mary’s (MN-HS)
2nd Round - 37th Overall - Tyler Ennis - C - Medicine Hat (WHL)
2nd Round - 49th Overall - James Livingston - RW - Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)
3rd Round - 67th Overall - Patrick Maroon - RW - London (OHL)
3rd Round - 73rd Overall - Dustin Tokarski - G - Spokane (WHL)
3rd Round - 87th Overall - Anthony Nigro - C - Guelph (OHL)
1st Round - 16th Overall - Mark Katic - D - Sarnia (OHL)
1st Round - 24th Overall - Jonathan Blum - D - Vancouver (WHL)
2nd Round - 46th Overall - Steve Mason - G - London (OHL)
2nd Round - 58th Overall - Jay Barriball - FW - Minnesota (WCHA)
3rd Round - 87th Overall - Matt Halischuk - RW - Kitchener (OHL)
Those are all my 1st day picks during my tenure in HFNHL.
That should be more than enough information for even the most in depth individual to make an educated guess at who i should/will pick. After 2 days, i'll fill out my pick as you have predicted it and complete my Mock Draft by the end of this week.
Well, interesting who you left off. If you are picking 8th and Granlund is not in your top 7 picks, that would mean Tarasenko is likely not in your personal top 12. I'm assuming Niederreiter and Connolly are the guys already drafted in the top 7, aside from the top 3 D's and the obvious top 2.
With that in mind, and given it is a top 10 pick, you have to go with BPA. And in this case based on an averaged ranking, it is Granlund, followed by Johansen, although it is close.
Definitely could use more sandpaper on the farm blueline, but you have to go with BPA. It sounds, though, like at least one of the guys ahead of you is planning to make a different selection than you have him slated for, so you might find your availables list looks slightly different than you project.
For my part, I wouldn't take Pysyk at 28th, never mind 8th, but that's just me. Then again, if I were you, and looking to draft in that neighbourhood with those options in front of me, I'm pretty sure I'd trade down...
