We have some absolute burners (Duchene, Cumiskey, O'Reilly is certainly no slouch, etc.). Could this be the fastest team to have ever worn the Burgundy and Blue? This more applies if someone like Elliot makes the team out of camp.

O'reilly? Serious? I would have Mueller, Stewart, Jones, Galiardi ahead of O'reilly in terms of speed.

Lol, why is O'Reilly in your little parenthesis thing....

But yes, this is a very fast team. Get faster on the D and we'll be good.

I was pointing out that an roster player with average speed (such as O'Reilly) is faster than any guy whose speed would be considered average for previous Avs rosters.

Cumiskey is top 10 easily in speed in the NHL.

I say the speed is just due to the fact that we have so many young players on offense and in the 'new' NHL speed/skating have become more important than ever.

Tho, that doesn't really explain the freaks of nature Cumiskey and Jones (pretty fast skater for his size).

Our D is still slow as hell tho. Hopefully it can get faster within the next few years.

Ryan O'reilly and Shjon Podeins speed are on par.

I believe it is. Re-amp the Defense and we will be one of the fastest overall teams in the NHL.

Speaking of O'Reilly he showed a visible improvement in skating mid-season. Hopefully he can improve even further this off-season.

Ya, it was remarkable really. He was a bit of a slug the first 15 games or so, but somewhere around there he became actually quite quick.

Anyways I wouldn't put him in the "fast" category, neither would I put Mueller there as someone else said.

I'd rank them:

Stupid Fast:
Cumiskey

Very fast:
Duchene
Jones (when he hits top stride, he takes awhile to get going though)

Fast:
Galiardi
Liles
Stewart

Above Average:
Hejduk
O'Reilly
Yip

Average:
Stastny
Mueller
Hendricks
McLeod
Quincey

Below Average:
Hannan
Wilson

Molasses:
Foote

Great list, but I would change Quincey and Wilson.

You think Wilson is faster than Quincey?

Hmm, I dunno about that.

Jason Allison could beat Quincey 1 on 1.

If Mueller can keep up with Duchene and at least make it close when trying to beat defensemen to the puck on a chase behind the goal line - I'm sure that's worthy of at least Above Average if not Fast.
In one game towards the tail end of the season I noted Mueller beat out Hejduk when Duchene was leading a rush.
Maybe it was on optical illusion

1996 team was faster, Sakic, Deadmarsh, Young, Forsberg, Kamensky, Ozolinsh were all pretty damn fast.

Also the team that had Sakic, Forsberg, Kariya, Selanne etc.. could be considered a faster team than this team, sadly that team didn't amount to anything though.

Yeah, that team with Kamensky, Ozolinsh, and Young had speed to burn.

Not really, Selanne wasn't fast in those years.

I would say it very well could be.

But it shouldn't be a surprise, most all teams nowadays are fast.

That's true, wasn't that knee-problem Selanne?

Eh, I'd definitely say that the 2004 team probably wasn't as fast as this team, even at full burning. Forsberg was never a fast guy, Sakic wasn't major fast but he was star player fast for sure (but not as fast as Duchene at this point), Selanne was ineffective and his knee sucked. Kariya was I believe still crazy fast though.

But I'd say you're probably right, the 1996 team may have us beat.
