Heatley/St. Louis

Martin St. Louis
Steve Downie
09'-10' 1st Round Pick
10'-11' 2nd Round Pick

Dany Heatley
Ryane Clowe
Douglas Murray
Jamie Mcginn
09'-10' 1st Round Pick
10'-11' 1st Round Pick

Thoughts? I don't think St. Louis is leaving Tampa though. I know he said he may want to leave but he's probably not going to.

You want that plus the sixth overall and we have to take back all that salary?

If I were to deal St. Louis at this moment, I would not get a whiney ***** that will demand a trade cause one thing isn't perfect.

I would deal St. Louis to Colorado for Mueller and a 2-5th round pick

That sounds fair, but the Sharks don't really have a Mueller. Setoguchi?

I didn't realize that Downie only made .6 Mil. But the thing looks like this.

A 90 PT wing who is 35 years old who is OK defensively and will only go downhill from here. Downie is a great 2-way top-6 wing at age 23 yrs.

Heatley is a 28 year old scoring winger with a deadly one timer.
Murray is a Top-4 D. Clowe is a top-6 wing who adds a factor off intimidation. Mcginn is a tough winger who will be an average 2nd liner and a great 3rd liner...a couple firsts is a couple firsts. We need to contend...

That deal favours Tampa far too much.

It's so nice how all these other fanbases are looking out for our team's well-being. Wanting to take an over the hill, declining forward off our hands. You guys must really love us.

And then you want to give us a whiny, had demanded a trade or out-right release from two teams, head case. One who from what I can figure some Sharks fans are not totally enthralled with. So sweet.

St. Louis' skills will never decline.

I'm sensing some unlabeled sarcasm in these posts.

I figured if it's laid on thick enough you don't actually have to label it, nobody would be able to miss it

I wouldn't accept any deal that has us losing Marty and taking back Dany Heatley. Don't want Heatley. Thanks.

Please understand I am in no way underestimating the talent coming back, but the money simply doesn't work, not when St. Louis is on a sweetheart of a contract and Downie is making peanuts.

Heatley - 7.5
Clowe - 3.625
Murray - 2.5
McGinn - .997

We have 14.622 million in (cap hit alone, not actual salary) and we're only sending 6.072 outbound, and we need to resign both Stamkos and Hedman very soon.

Moneywise it just doesn't work. If we had drafted (ironically enough) much like the sharks over the better part of the last 6-7 years, we might be in a position where we could get by on some guys working off of ELCs and still be competitive, but Tampa just doesn't have that luxury.

As for the deal itself... I like Clowe, and to a lesser extent, Murray... don't care for Heatley and just don't know enough about McGinn. Giving up St. Louis who has shown no signs of slowing down, as well as Downie who really made any line he played on effective really just isn't in our gameplan.

Don't want Heatley anywhere near a Tampa roster, especially if it involves trading St. Louis and Downie.

You can't have both Heatley and Lecavalier's salaries on the roster, that's way too much between 2 playerss, and between the two, I'm taking Vinny, if only for the lack of dramatics.

Plus, I don't think Heatley is a great fit. He has played for Atlanta and Ottawa, two clubs that aren't too popular 'round these parts, and again, taking a big name, big salary player is not the thoughtful approach I think Yzerman is looking for. I don't see a ton of roster overhaul going into next season, and I certainly don't see St. Louis getting anything but a well earned contract extension...the only reason he's considering leaving is the instability and underachievement that has plagued this franchise since the Lockout...instability is gone the way of OK Hockey, Vinik is the owner this franchise has needed for 20 years, and I see good things happening here as the economy recovers.

Douglas Murray? He's big, slow and stupid, we've had way too many of those idiots going through the revolving doors lately. And Yzerman has spoken of Downie as though he was already signed long term.

About 95% are fine with him, this new guy keeps trying to trade him for some reason.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll just jump off this ridiculous offer.

Would a deal centered on Douglas Murray for Andrej Meszaros (fill in any blanks for either side) be of any interest?

I'm kinda of hoping meszaros stays for one more season just to see how he does with a different coach. He is still pretty young and the lightning have invested a lot of money in him.

Actually, yes, he could really be a nice anchor for Victor and allow him to be more aggressive/creative, we shed some salary... I actually really, really like this idea.

My thoughts mimic Gmans, above, but really I think a more mobile defensive defenseman can help Victor and/or Mike Lundin on one of the first two pairings and allow the both of them to flex a little more puck moving muscle. Lundin/Murray would be a good pairing, I think.

I don't think I would consider Murray mobile, he's over 250 lbs despite what the NHL lists him as. I think he's awesome though, but I don't think I'd give Meszaros up for him quite yet.
