To me it wasn't the dollar amount that was a big deal..it was the 3 year term. That was the mistake IMO.

Someone please take Preissing
Donald Brashear. 1 year left @ 1.4 mil cap hit if playing in the NHL. 1.3 mil cap hit if playing in AHL or retires. 1.3 mil left in actual salary.

Preissing has 1 year left @ 2.75 cap hit. 2.75 mil salary.

Rangers save 1.3 mil in cap space. Avs save 1.45 mil in actual dollars.

Signed it after a playoff run with Edmonton. It's sucked ever since.

He has so much skill but it seems like he refuses to get a fire lit under his ass. If he used his speed and skated as well as he can he would still be a 60 point scorer at the very least. I really like Sammy and I hope we give him one more chance for maybe 10 games, but if he doesn't show anything...he deserves to be bought out.

Not straight-up, of course... Sarich for a pick, with Samsonov as the throw-in.

No, he signed with Montreal after '06, was monstrously incompetent there and was eventually waived and traded around the league. He eventually ended up in Carolina where he had a very good run at the end of the season which got him his latest contract that he's still on. He's just one of those guys that shouldn't get longer than a 1 year contract.

I can see him ending up on the Rangers, but I have a feeling he'll make his way to the Island, the place where careers go to die.

For some reason I think this guy would thrive with Phoenix. This season, Tippet managed to get all of his guys playing to the best of their potential with the roles they were given. Samsonov's skill in a system like that would kill...well on a Vrbata level at least.

To be far to the man, trying to find a way to trade him or buy him out is not a testament at all to how much effort he NORMALLY shows (ALL players take nights off once in a while), or how good he can be. Like has been said before, he just seems snakebitten lately, cant get it going. Love the guy as a player, wish it would come together for him here, he'd be fine in the role he had last season as a 2nd line player with Jussi and Ruutu, that line was wonderful for a while. No idea what his problem is.

Did Samsonov play with a couple of offensive black holes like Wellwood did for most of his 5 on 5 icetime?

Samsonov has had brief stints playing with Staal, but for the most part a lot of his linemates have been below average. I will agree with the people saying he's just one of the most unlucky players ever. He can skate and handle the puck, dangle like crazy and make sick passes but it always seems the majority of his chances are never converted whether it's his fault or a linemate screwing up.
