The Chael Sonnen Thread (more trash talk)

It seems like he never shuts up. A lot of it is funny but can he actually back it up?

Here's the latest interview he did...

On Tito:

Quote:
"If I beat Anderson Silva and become the World Champion, I imagine I'll get in a public dispute with the UFC, I'll call Dana a bunch of names throughout the media and I imagine I'll leave the company. After about a year or so, I'll realize that there's nowhere else to go, return to the UFC with a raise and probably coach the reality show. I'm just sayin' it seems to be the trend, doesn't it?"
On Rampage:

Quote:
"I won't watch the A-Team movie," said Sonnen. "That was my favorite TV show, but they cast the wrong guy. I won't be watching it."
On Machida/LHW Division:

Quote:
"185 pounds is the toughest division in the business," said Sonnen. "If you're going to go after the belt, go after the tough one. I'd love to get a night off and go beat up some of [the UFC's light heavyweights]. For god's sake, 205 had a karate guy that was their champion. That weight class is a joke."

We'll be hearing a lot more from Sonnen before the title fight so please post the quotes in this thread. I'm sure a lot of them will be GOLD.

Sonnen is awesome.

Seems like most of the stuff he says is tongue in cheek

If Sonnen didn't talk no one would know who he was. He realized this after he was the "uncrowned" wec champ and still no one knew him.

He knows he's got a short window before he becomes irrelevant again, so kudos to him for milking his 15 minutes.

He sure talks alot for someone who'll be .500 in the UFC in a couple months. Don't get me wrong.. he's great at what he's doing and it'll put some money in his pocket.. but he can't back up these words.

Sonnen's smack talk is pure genius. His fighting style does not draw attention to him, regardless of how effective it is. The Smack offsets that.

Exactly. Before he beat Marquardt, he never did any of this. I actually remembered him being a rather humble guy--even in the postfight interview after his fight with Filho was stopped early.

FO: The UFC is very keen on legitimization and on shedding the old ‘bloodsport’ image that it once had. The UFC top brass must be quite excited at the prospect of having an elected representative of the people on their roster? (The only other fighter I can think of who has achieved similar is Mirko Filipovic, who was elected to the Croatian parliament)

A member of the Croatian parliament couldn't get his own mother out of a speeding ticket. What are they going to do, lead their 200-strong military into a battle? My hometown could invade Croatia in 15 minutes and while Mirko stands there holding a dart and a spitball, you will understand what he was really elected to.

If he's not actually an idiot he's sure trying hard to look like one.

And it has officially gone too far.....

He now says the Twitter account is fake even though there is video of him saying that's his real account. What an idiot, he now has everyone calling him a racist.

"Yeah, when you get him [Anderson Silva] down you're not out of the woods yet. But he has a black belt from the Nogueira brothers, which is like getting a toy in your happy meal if you ask me. One of them is a punching bag and the other is really just irrelevant."
Sounds like he's stealing some of Maia's (alleged) material.

You can remove the 'Sonnen 2010' bumper stickers for your vehicles: 'Legal issue' prompts Chael Sonnen to withdraw from Oregon senate race
Quote:
In the best interests of my district, I am resigning from my campaign for the Oregon House of Representatives. A 2006 legal issue has arisen that needs my immediate attention. I am not at liberty to disclose the details, but my name was involved in a real estate case that requires a ruling. If the ruling is adverse, I would be disqualified from running for office until 2011. So, given that possibility, I have chosen to withdraw my name as a candidate in 2010. I will continue to contribute to my community and ensure that we have a capable candidate to run for my district in November.

I can't say I'm not happy about this, i was scared his nomination would take all the place of his MMA career.

Any chance Chael will be working with Van Damme or Chuck Norris?

Mr. Seagal's impressive record of victories against bored stuntmen who are paid to lose makes his criticism particularly stinging.
From Sonnen's twitter account, which really may or may not be real. even if it's not him, pretty funny

Anderson Silva is going to put Sonnen on the wrong end of an obscure entry into the UFC recordbooks.

I take it back.

He was on MMA Connected before 115 and he was hilarious. It's obvious that he's playing a character.

I can't remember exactly what he said, but he mentioned that he was in a cab with Anderson's manager Ed Soares. I can't remember why, but Soares asked Sonnen if they had been teleported back to the 15th century for some reason and Sonnen said, paraphrasing, "no Ed, we're still in the cab and by the way, teleportation hasn't even been invented yet, you must be kinda stupid."

I don't particularly care for Anderson but I was still was hoping he would smash Sonnen, but now I'm hoping for the opposite.

Haha yes there was some reference to studying Shakespeare or something that led into the 15th century comment. I give him credit for really working on his material.
