Handy player to have, especially at a low cap hit.

That's cheap considering what Orr and BGL got and they are useless on the ice other then taking dumb penalties, giving up odd man rushes, and fighting.

he was absolutely useless the entire playoffs, and I thought that would be his time to shine even if only playing 4 minutes a game.

Instead I don't really remember one shift he had in the playoffs. Whatever, he's a good 4th line guy for that price and matters in the lockerroom to.

Love it. For some reason Bruins fans loathe him...yet he fights anyone and makes no money.

Orr isn't a liability on the ice.

Good signature for the Bruins. The guy brings toughness and he is not so bad defensively. Very cheap and short term enough to keep him on his toes. Thornton can stand against any goons in the league.

Calling Laraque useless is being nice and I would never expect that from a Bruins fans towards a habs' player.

Love it, thornton is more important to the team then meets the eye, the most vocal leader in the lockerroom, fights whoever is tough as nails, and isnt really that much of a liability on the ice, has decent hands and a shot for a fighter, plus has good hockey sence...

he does skate like a goofy mofo though i cant help him on that one

He's a little too passive for most people. He doesn't go looking for trouble and he's not quick enough to hit anybody.

I like Shawn, he fights bigger guys, plays a pretty honest game and isn't a horrible hockey player. But he makes no impact on the game with his body or his fists unless the goon on the other team is looking to start something.

I'm glad they resigned him, as much as I'd like him to do more, there's not an upgrade out there.

Good signing, Bosyon needs that toughness and locker room character.

You're comparing Orr to Shawn Thornton? LOL

It's funny how the hero in Boston was Evander Kane while Shawn Thornton could barely pull out a win over Matt Cooke.

I think I'd take the extra 190k to have someone that can actually protect his team, rather than someone who pretends to.

You can correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Thornton beaten Orr in at least 1 fight?

I can swear I remember that happening.

Good signing for the Bruins. Very cheap and he's one of the only true heavyweights that at least has some skill, unlike Peters, Koci, etc. Good vocal guy and leader in the lockerroom and he sometimes acts as an energy guy. He usually tries hard to get the crowd up and into the game after a fight.

Love it! Best hockey-playing enforcer in the NHL. He can beat anyone in a fight and can outplay the toughest guys in the league. Some Bruins fans don't like him because he won't drop the gloves and take an instigator at the slightest provocation. I see that as a good thing. Never takes stupid penalties either.

Yeah, that guy has no idea what he was talking about. Thornton beat Orr in their only fight last year. He also beat Laraque the last time they scrapped.

He had the 6th-most fighting majors in the NHL last year and a sterling record of 15-3-3 according to hockeyfights.com

Seems fair, very comparable to Mike Rupp's contract.

Montreal posters my ass. Which Habs fans have "Habs suck" as a catch phrase on their profile?

Just wish Thorton could learn, how to throw a body check and would play with a bit more of an edge ,but he wants to be a bruin and is a good team guy so good signing

Agreed but for a fighter he isn't that bad of a player and can skate,so to have an enforcer I think it's a pretty good move/price to pay for one
