Kaberle to either Anaheim or Buffalo

Kaberle to either Anaheim or Buffalo

Quote:
A few interesting tidbits regarding the potential destination of defenseman Tomas Kaberle.

Hockey Night In Canada Radio and HNIC I-Desk host Jeff Marek tweeted yesterday that:

(Brian)Burke wants a forward who can score w/size. Bobby Ryan remains unsigned in ANA. Ducks may lose Nieds(Scott Niedermayer). Kaberle on the market. Just sayin...

The Bobby Ryan to Toronto speculation has been in the wind ever since Burke left Anaheim. Ryan was selected 2nd behind Sidney Crosby in the 2005 draft and has paled by comparison to “Sid the Kid”, but is still a great, young scorer. Only 23, Ryan has scored 30+ goals his two full NHL seasons and on July 1 becomes a restricted free agent.

He likely will be demanding in the same monetary neighborhood as Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf($5.3 Million) and if Ducks GM Bob Murray balks at that price, then the Phil Kessel scenario is repeating itself. Ryan could be the target of a team willing to sign him to an offer sheet(which Toronto can’t do), so Anaheim may be forced to move him.

It will take more than just Kaberle to get a young, talented forward like Ryan. That could mean someone like Nazem Kadri or Luke Schenn being part of a larger deal.

In yesterday’s Buffalo News (http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/...ng-papers.html), reporter John Vogl mentioned:

Tomas Kaberle’s no-trade clause is set to expire, and Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke is ready to deal him…... One of the Sabres' biggest needs is a power-play defenseman, and Kaberle fits that description.

Based on the criteria indicated by Burke, the young, scoring forward that fits the Leafs asking price could be Derek Roy or Jason Pominville, but no one who knows the operating methods of Sabres GM Darcy Regier thinks that he would move either one of those players.

The player that Buffalo is likely to shop is underachieving winger Drew Stafford, who has never been a favorite of coach Lindy Ruff. If Stafford was the player offered, the Leafs are likely to demand a significant throw in, perhaps the Sabres 2010 1st round selection or a young prospect like Zach Kassian, who Burke is known to covet.

Expect the talk to increase exponentially as the draft gets closer. In all likelihood, a Kaberle deal will take place at the draft or before July 1.

I can't see Kaberle staying within the NE division, given the number of games these guys play against one another. Competing for a playoff spot against the team you just traded one of your biggest assets makes the deal difficult to balance.

This Sabre fan believes that Stafford and Kassian is too high a price for Kaberle--even if he were signed for more than one year which he is not. Stafford plus? yes A second next year maybe or Gerbe or the like. Kabs is good but ....

If Brain Burke lands Ryan and the main part going to The Ducks is Kaberle, the good people of Toronto need to start working on the 50' Statue of Burke.

I just don't see it happening but if it does Burke goes from being a top-5 GM (in my mind) to being in the conversation with Holland.

Really? Try Kadri or Schenn with Kaberle.

Burke has no leverage to put in an offer sheet for Ryan so unless its a trade for Kaberle plus a top notch prospect then there's nothing doing (TO's "goalie" prospects don't count).

I think this has more to do with Buffalo than the Ducks. They clearly need a puck-moving d-man and are out East.

The Ducks are out West and I can't see Kaberle taking that well.

If including Schenn in the package brings back Bobby Ryan, then I'm all for it.

Doubtful Kaberle would re-sign in Anaheim. They're going to have to rebuild, somewhat, if Niedermayer feels his time there is up. They also recently acquired Visnovsky, so their need for another Kaberle-type isn't there. Sbisa will be promoted instead. And with Selanne also going, Ryan will likely be kept. However, if Kadri or Schenn is included as well, of course a deal could happen. TO has no threat of another offer sheet, so Anaheim could deal Ryan to anybody if they can't reach a deal.

Buffalo's need for Kaberle isn't really there either, as Myers will only improve. Buffalo lacks offense, so trading Roy or Pomminville for him makes absolutely no sense. Other suggestions are fluff.

Why would teams want Kaberle now unless the return is really low? He's a UFA next summer, folks. People should expect a Kubina-esque return, not a first rounder/top liner blah, blah, blah. Learn.

Ever been to LA or Anaheim? The weather is nice-ish but it's no San Jose or San Diego.

I love it when people bring up the weather in So-Cal or talk about the 'beaches' down there.

First off, I can't see Ana. willing to part with Ryan, if they do it will take a lot to get him - think Kessel (2 firsts and a second) so Kaberle and a big plus since the leafs don't have a 1st until sometime after the apocalypse it will have to be Kadri, Schenn, Bozak, and I'm not sure 1 of them alone does it. To add to this, if Ana. can't resign Ryan it will be because he is looking for too much money so can TO realistically pay another winger 5+ mill a year and still be able to fill out the rest of roster with NHL level talent?

Secondly the Buffalo deal Stafford and a 1st or Kassian (alone) would make sense if Toronto's willing to trade to a division rival, and Kabs is willing to resign, but I don't think there is a hope in hell that Buff. would trade both Stafford and Kassian, that's wishful thinking.

You can't be serious? If you think Kaberle is going to go for a defenseman that he's worse than, your absolutely nuts. Kubina got a low return because he was a salary dump, Kaberle is not.

Either Burke gets a first round pick or a good young scoring forward or Kaberle isn't going anywhere. It's that simple.
