Who's 'we'? Are you part of the Leafs front office? Yeah, I'm sure Toronto, they of the 2nd worst record in the league, wouldn't want Carlson, Fehr, Alzner, Schultz, Fleischmann, etc. They've got so many better players.

Hmm..

Interesting someone mentioned LA.

It's possible LA could do something like 2 years/$5.1m per rather than re-sign O'Donnell. This would allow the physical d-man prospects(Teubert, etc) additional time to develop. The other reasons for signing him are fairly obvious.

As much as I like Volchenkov, If I were a GM I would be warry about an long term deal with the amount of shots he blocks he is a target for injuries

I don't think the Caps are interested in a basketball player.

I really like Volchenkov, and I'd love to see him on the Kings as a shut-down guy to play with Johnson... but $5m? I think this is all baseless interwebz speculation. There are a lot of nuts running NHL teams, but can you honestly see any NHL GM shelling out $20m for four years of a defensive defensman who can't seem to play a full season? That just doesn't make any sense to me. There just insn't enough cap space and free cash out there to shell out that kind of money.

Rob Scuderi got 4 years at $3.4m per and he was a Stanley-cup winning hero.

how does almost every proposal, speculation, or rumour turn into a Kaberle discussion?

I could really see Volchenkov doing very well in New Jersey.

I am in the minority. This i know. The Caps had the best record in the league without hitter/shot blocker defensive zone playmaker like Volchenkov. While they lost in the playoffs, it was certainly not because they gave up too many goals. It was because they failed to score.

I really wonder whether a player like Volchenkov fits the Caps plans. He requires a stay at home partner just like an offensive defenseman does and the Caps want to move the puck.

They could be way wrong, but its my take that they are going to play their brand of hockey and try and ram it down the league's throat again next year. We will see.

For some reason, I can't really put my finger on it, I don't buy that you actually have a source.
