Granlund is just one player and I don't think that the Finish success in the tournament depends on one player. Granlund can be replaced by Haula. I would like to see this roster in the tournament:

Pulkkinen - Haula - Rajala
Armia - Nättinen - Pakarinen
Donskoi - Tuominen - Partanen
Turtiainen - Salmivirta - Salomäki

+ Tallberg

Junttila and Piitulainen would not make my team. They are small and they don't got the speed either. They are skilled and they can be really good players, but not in North America. All theese 4 lines could get some offensiv going, but they can also defend. I don't know how good Haula is in the defensivezone, but the first line have great goalscorers and lots of potential.

Vatanen - Kivistö
Rissanen - Jokipakka
Manelius - Hakanpää

+ Kärmeniemi

I don't think any other d-men have any chance to break into the team. Maybe Mikael Aaltonen or Joonas Hurri could, but they have to play great in the following weekes to make the team. It's doubtful.

The goaltender is Ortio, Gibson or Aittokallio. Finland will not fall because of the goaltending, this is a pretty solid piece of team Finland.

IMO Junttila and Piitulainen are speedy players and can cause plenty of difficulties for defending players on open ice. They aren't the strongest players and perhaps not that well suited for North American game, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if either one of them is left out of the team.

I'm not that high on Salmivirta's chances of making the final team. Palve and Mustonen are probably closer to making the team as centre forwards, apparently Virkkunen also knows how to play that position, so there are several decent options.

I'm pretty certain that Hakanpää won't make the team, he's having difficulties reacting quickly enough in some situations and he still needs more experience of playing against top competition. I'm also starting to think that Kärmeniemi won't make the team, I've been watching some HPK games and it's obvious that's he needs a lot more strength before he's able to handle all defensive responsibilities against strong opponents.

I might be wrong, but I believe that the 7 D's will be selected from the following 9 players; Sami Vatanen, Tommi Kivistö, Jyrki Jokipakka, Rasmus Rissanen, Olli Määttä, Nico Manelius, Juha-Pekka Pietilä, Jesse Virtanen and Simo-Pekka Riikola.

Gibson is still out because of a knee injury and it's unknown when he's able to return. Might miss the WJC's.

Does that make Iihilati the 3rd goalie?

Yep, Iilahti is probably the 4th goalie after Ortio, Gibson and Aittokallio, so if one of the top three is unable to attend the pre tournament camp, he should get an invite. The final WJC roster is limited to only 2 GK's.

Let's see what happens without Granlund. The team wasn't good in U20 4 Nations tournament

If Granlund is able to play, I'd take him as the 13th forward who plays mostly on the powerplay.

Edit: according to coach Marjamäki, if Granlund is able to train normally next week, he'll be in.

Ortio and Aittokallio seem like a bit more advanced goalies than Iilahti and Perhonen, so this should be clear, unless there are injuries.

I'm surprised that Hakanpää made the camp roster, he's a good defenseman in Jr.A, but on a higher level he still has pretty big difficulties. The head coach Marjamäki is from the same organization as Hakanpää, so that might have something to do with this selection. ...Or they are hoping that Hakanpää will play better in a NA rink, like he did at the U18WC's. Other than Hakanpää, my guess would be either Virtanen or Pietilä. You can't be absolutely sure about Rissanen either, since his season in NA hasn't been the best possible.

If Granlund is out, I think that Haula, Nättinen, Tuominen, Virkkunen and Salomäki will all make the team, because to be on the safe side, it's important to have 5 players that know how to play centre forward, especially in a long and tough tournament like this where injuries and suspensions are possible. I'd say that Junttila, Tallberg or Partanen is the second forward left out besides Granlund. If Granlund is able to participate, it's harder to predict which forwards are left out, too many possibilities.

Let's hope that all the players stay healthy, since there are still a few games left before the tournament.

Reggae okay. You are new to these boards, so you probably don't know this yet, but here on HFBoards you don't actually have to see the prospect in order to make an evaluation. It's enough if you have heard his name mentioned somewhere.

Maybe you could watch a few Silvertips games from here and give your own opinion on Rissanen's present form, you humble one.

I know that site and I have watched some WHL-games this years, but I have not seen Rissanen playing this year. I'm just used to not talk about players I have not seen playing, that's all .

The finnish rooster is pretty solid. Granlund would be a great asset for the team, but I don't think he is going to participate in the tournament. He has already been drafted, he does not have to show his amazing skills to anyone no more.

Here is my team:

Pulkkinen - Haula - Rajala
Armia - Nättinen - Pakarinen
Donskoi - Tuominen - Junttila
Turtiainen - Salomäki - Partanen

13: Virkkunen

Vatanen - Kivistö
Jokipakka - Rissanen
Manelius - Määttä

7: Hakanpää

Ortio
Aittokallio
Perhonen

Out: Tallberg, Granlund (injury), Pietilä, Virtanen, Iilahti

Virtanen is a skilled defender, but he is small and we already got Vatanen and Jokipakka. I think Virkkunen will make the team because he has played 30 games in SM-Liiga this year and he can also play as a center. Tallberg is a winger, that's why I think he don't make the team. I left Pietilä out of the team because I have not seen him in a game this years. Salomäki will play as a center in this tournament and he is being drafted next summer, he will make the team. Iilahti has not convinced me at all and he is already drafted to the canucks. Perhonen is a big modern goalie, who will be drafted next summer. He is the third goalie.

After tonight's match, the coach said that he'd like to see the following two lines also at the beginning of the WJC's;

Rajala - Nättinen - Armia
Donskoi - Tuominen - Junttila

This probably means that Haula and Pulkkinen will form a line alongside with maybe Pakarinen or someone else.

So the top 3 lines could be:
Rajala - Nättinen - Armia
(Pakarinen) - Haula - Pulkkinen
Donskoi - Tuominen - Junttila

According to the WJC listings, he's 87kg/192 lbs which is quite a bulk up from last year. 180cm/5'11 tall.
