MDZ or Streit?

Your Glen Sather. You smoke cigars all day and work on your golf swing. Your blackberry beeps and it's a BBM from some guy named Garth Snow. You've never heard of him but you decide to read it anyways...

"Glen, We want Del Zotto.. How about a Streit for MDZ straight up? You have 24 hours to decide.."

So, you put the phone down, smoke a few more cigars and jump on you tube to check these guys out.

23 hours, 50 minutes later you realize it's about that time to make a desicion... You get your coin out and right when your about to flip it you decide maybe... just maybe you shouldn't leave it up to chance.

Do you do the trade?

No. For reasons that every other poster in this thread will probably touch on.

No chance. Streit's best days are behind him. DZ will be cheaper for a few more seasons and will achieve similar point totals as Streit.

I'll play devil's advocate here and vote against the grain. I really like Streit and was no impressed with Del Zotto's defensive play.

You guys should really lighten up, It's just freaking hypothetical question. Some people actually consider streit a good asset outside the NY area believe it or not.Obviously nobody in ranger land would do this deal but you'd be surprised at what other fans would think (like NYI probably saying no to the deal because they're biased for streit)

This thread is dumb.

Lets see here.

Mark Streit- 32 year old offensive type defenseman. Average defenseman. Not very physical. Very good point man. 49 points with the Islanders last season. Started NHL career pretty late at age 27. 3 years left at 4 million.

Michael Del Zotto- 20 year old offensive defenseman. Shows signs of being a very good to excellent powerplay point man. 37 points as a 19 year old rookie. Was -20 for the season and struggled at times defensively. Also showed a nice amount of physicality. On an entry level deal.

So who would you take? The 20 year old kid who has 37 points around 8 years before Streit played the first game of his career? Or the 33 year old who's likely on the downside of his career and makes a boatload of money in comparison to MDZ? Id rather not see what Streit looks like at age 36. Also, clearly at 19 years old, just being in the NHL is an amazing accomplishment, nonetheless totaling 37 points as a d-man. He may have struggled defensively but he will obviously develop.

Yeah at 19 years old he'll probably play defensively like that forever. Dump him.

I really really doubt that. If they had any common sense they would make this trade. They are rebuilding. They are not close to winning and never will with Streit. So why not trade for a player that could be instrumental in winning a Stanley Cup? You should think before you post.

Go post this poll on the Isles board, I would bet that 2/3s minimum take the deal and run.

Streit is okay, but it's kind of clear where he is in his upward trend.

Michael Del Zotto, well who knows, but the guy has more potential than Streit. Couple that with the price and the question is a question with a built-in, default answer, which is.....drum roll please....coming....coming.....tadatada....boom... .boom....

no

This is a trade you could make if you are looking for that final piece to make a Cup run and Streit is the type of player you need, which, of course, does not describe the Rangers.

That said, even then you'd have to take a good, long think before you do the trade, because MDZ and Streit are not THAT different type players that the payoff would be worth it.

the kid was a boy amongst men last year. He performed admirably given the circumstances. No way.

team loyalty be damned. If there is a lateral move that won't help you in the long run then why make it? Stick to your own guns.

AND TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF.

Anyways I voted no. I do like Streit, but the contract, coupled with the age, coupled with the potential, it's a no-brainer.

Streit should've been signed instead of Redden.

Yea, I'm all for keeping MDZ, but if someone makes a thread which is viewed "as dumb" (or "redeemed" themselves with another dumb thread), why not just say nothing at all? Or maybe that makes too much sense.
