Who gets the second "A"

Assuming Prospal leaves for the purpose of this thread, and assuming Callahan and captain clutch are back who gets the 2nd "A"?

When Cally was injured we saw Rosi wear the "A", so torts clearly sees something in Rosi that he likes. Gaborik well he's by far our best player (other than hank) and it would be very hard not to give it to him after last season. Dubinsky exemplifies the qualities that all coaches look for in leaders and I think he's our future captain. Avery is clearly not hesitant to get on anyones case as we saw in montreal last year and he knows he must perform at a high level this year. Staal is hopefully going to be a lifetime ranger and the core of our defense. I think this is going to be a very hard/interesting decision

Give Drury Cally and Dubi A's, and make someone earn the C... whether it be one of them or someone else who steps up as a leader in the locker room and on the ice.

I'd bet on Gaborik or Rozsival. I don't think Tortorella is ready to turn the team over to Callahan, Dubinsky and Staal just yet.

Too soon to tell, Sather could sign a vet for some leadership experience (remember all that talk after the season ended about having good character in the locker room?).

I'm not so sure if Torts would give an "A" to Gaborik, though. All that talk about him needing to play better in big games doesn't scream "leader" to me.

Rozy is one of the longest tenured Rangers so he may be a logical choice, but he's prob not a vocal guy in the locker room.

I can't imagine Avery ever wearing a letter. It's only a matter time before Dubi and Staal get the "As," but I don't think it will be this season.

Recall that in Tampa, Torts stripped the 'A' from Lecavalier when Lecavalier held out for his new contract. I'd say this is evidence that Torts won't just give the 'C' or an 'A' to our best player, but rather, that he wants to give them to the right players. Thus, I am skeptical that Gaborik would get one.

Its Rozsival. He got it last season when one of the three was injured/scratched.

Unless the Rangers aquire someone in free agency or via trade that they prefer.

Rozy had it for a few games this past season, no reason he won't have it again this upcoming one until he loses it.

Forgot to add to my post that I think Avery would be a great choice. We've heard reports that he's very vocal in the clubhouse, he's competitive all the time judging by his fights in practice, and it would make the refs have to deal with him if Tortorella sends him to get information on a call...

Agreed. Him and Lundqvist attributed to the team's turnaround at the end of last season from what I remember, taking the players aside and taking over the ice -- at any rate -- I don't think he'll get it and Rozy ends up with it for reasons mentioned above.

Whoever said Cally, Duby, Staal for the C,A,A above -- I'd personally like to see that as well.

.

What? No Redden??

Seriously, I voted Staal.

You have your "Leader" in Chris Drury

You have the heat and soul of the team in Callahan with one A

Youl should give the other A to the defensive anchor in Staal.

23 points for an offensive defensman is god awful

hes hardly physical and he shys away from contact

he flat out refuses to shoot

he passes to no one frequently

he cannot/should not play the pp. ever.

hes god awful in his own end more often than not

he skates like hes wearing work boots

and beyond a decent stretch from say.... early march on, he was mostly dreadful last season.

This post reeks of bias.

23 points for a Dman on an offensively challenged team isn't really all that bad. He was also a + on the year, which is a tough way to judge a dman but it's a stat to look at.

Like it or not this guy has been one of our top 3 dmen since the lockout, he deserved the contract, he deserved the A when he got it last year and he'll deserve it next year if Tortorella decides to give it to him.
