I love dark style movies like running scared, kick ass, etc. This looks amazing

There are rumours that this is merely a hype movie for the next game... seems a lot of trailers are being released to coincide with E3. I hope it's not, though. This looks absolutely disgusting.

I actually have goosebumps. I haven't had that for a MK thing since the first time I saw an MK3 machine in the arcades.

I thought it was Kano sitting there. The goatee was Kano-esque.

I don't get the appeal. It's not really MK, it's just a more generic movie with MK window dressing.

also, was that Jeri Ryan playing Sonja?

The whole thing kind of reminds me of There Will be Brawl, just without the requisite amount of extra sly source material references.

Wow, they killed off Johnny Cage in the trailer this time? That's faster than in the second movie.

The whole trailer is a star studded cast. And apparently warner brothers was wanting to reboot the franchise... That looks far too awesome to be a trailer though... Especially with jeri ryan in it.

Not sure what to think about this one. MK should definitely be dark but I liked the atmosphere of the old ones even if they were cheesy flicks. I guess I'll wait to watch the actual movie.

I'm not exactly sure why it should be dark. The games were reasonably cheesy. I'm a big fan of the first movie but am open to a remake/reboot/whatever. They already fubar'ed up the thing with MK2 so might as well try again.

I would like to see Lambert return though.

Has sort of a Chris Nolan feel to it, in my opinion. I've had MK games since Sega Genesis, so you can probably imagine how excited I am the reboot has gone in this direction.

I was reading Scorpion's wiki page (geek, I know), and based on his storyline and this trailer, it seems like the film will be canon to Scorpion's life in MK II.

Quote:
In the first Mortal Kombat game Scorpion is introduced as a dead warrior who enters into the Mortal Kombat tournament to kill Sub-Zero, the man who killed him. Scorpion manages to kill his target, but later learns that Sub-Zero plans to compete in the second tournament. Enraged at the idea that his nemesis has somehow returned, Scorpion tracks him down during the tournament. He realizes that this Sub-Zero was actually his killer's younger brother, who was sent to complete his brother's failed mission of assassinating the tournament's host Shang Tsung. As a result, Scorpion vows to serve as the new Sub-Zero's guardian in atonement for killing his older brother.
http://mortalkombat.wikia.com/wiki/Scorpion

EDIT: For those who thought it was a game trailer, it appears to be the opposite. Off of Jeri Ryan's (Sonya Blade in the trailer) twitter.

Okay, so... Mortal Kombat.

-----------------------------------

It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film.

Which will make no effin sense in this movie, unless they are going to magically bring in Quan Chi(actual killer) into this fight club party of an MK movie.Good luck changing "sorcerer" into a occupation like baraka.

I don't think MK needs to be cheesy. They can do the appropriate mood and tone for the film in a supernatural setting. I just don't get this sudden fascination with "dark" and "gritty" and as one person put it, a Christopher Nolan type vibe. It worked with Batman. It doesn't need to be done with everything.

As awesome as There Will Be Brawl is, it didn't have sweet fight scenes like the Baraka vs. Cage one in the trailer.
