"It has not been a good day. I lost my glasses early this morning and I had to go buy a pair of 79 dollar reading glasses today. 79 bucks. You can literally get them at Costco, three-for-20." - Darryl Sutter's response to going up 2-0 in the series.
That won't totally solve their issues, but it will help.
That saves 5.333 million this year. Though got some cap space. they'll still need to trade, bury, or buyout Huet and they still have a boatload of RFAs
So the Hawks get a good prospect plus 1st and 2nd round picks for a Top 6 forward, a good 4th liner, a head-case prospect and a salary dump. They had to move Barker but received a 1st rounder from the 2009 draft in return and still won the Cup.
KINGS17...you have some explaining to do. This cents on the dollar stuff that was supposed to be happening with Chicago is definitely not happening. Sure, they don't make this move unless they have to do so but they are getting great returns and are still going to be force. Hell, they even replenish their prospect pool in the process!
What has been overlooked throughout this is that teams are not going to band together to teach Chicago a lesson. GMs want to make their teams better and, as long as there are stupid GMs in the league, teams in cap hell will get bailed out.
Deano...get Kovalchuk. Worry about winning and locking up your key guys. Your key guys really only need to be like 4 forwards, 3 d-men and a goalie. The rest can be interchangeable pretty much. Bargain basement **** and worrying about having a ton of cap space is for losers. Cap space isn't worth **** if you never use it.
Now that were back on the topic of the Kings, I put together a 20-man lineup without any outside acquisitions, just to give us an idea of how much cap space DL really has to work with.
FORWARDS
Ryan Smyth ($6.250m) / Anze Kopitar ($6.800m) / Justin Williams ($3.500m)
Scott Parse ($0.900m) / Jarret Stoll ($3.600m) / Dustin Brown ($3.175m)
* Brad Richardson ($1.750m) / Michal Handzus ($4.000m) / Wayne Simmonds ($0.822m)
Kyle Clifford ($0.900m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.140m) / Kevin Westgarth ($0.525m)
DEFENSEMEN

Davis Drewiske ($0.617m) / Jack Johnson ($1.425m)
Matt Greene ($2.950m) / Peter Harrold ($0.583m)
GOALTENDERS
Jonathan Quick ($1.800m) / Jonathan Bernier ($0.843m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS

Now obviously, by adding a D-Man Harrold would take his seat in the press box. As would a 4th liner, should another forward be added.
Nice to see Big Daddy out of the west. . . even though he wasn't that much a factor during the season . . would hate to have to deal with him during the Playoffs. . . I bet Vancouver is happy right now
