Maybe a modest raise...

Basically another go out there and prove you can score 30 contract. Glad to have one of my favorite yotes inked.

Upshall is an interesting case. His last deal was based on him being able to prove that he could put up his previous year's totals on a consistant basis. Well, he certainly like he was going to, but because of the injury he did not. It's almost as if he's at the same point this summer as he was last summer. Obviously he proved more, but there are also new questions. I'd have to agree with PHXFB, here. Shouldn't be too much of a raise. He needs a full, healthy, AND productive season before the gets that contract he's wanted for the last year.

I think with his stature and the game he plays it's going to be hard for him to stay healthy. I remember the play he got hurt on was pretty innocuous, but it makes you wonder. How does a guy like Purcha get ravaged nearly every game but stay healthy?

Good to have Scottie back. Now just get Lombardi under contract too. They are the whole reason this team has turned around.

Good to have him back for another season at least. See what he can do and stay healthy and then give him what he wants. It makes me wonder what kind of difference he would have made in the Detroit series but thats long gone. Lets hope we can get the ownership situation resolved and give guys like Upshall long term contracts.

interesting! According to my rep he said that GMDM had Scotty and Wolski as priority signings about an hour ago.

Just saw this on channel 12. Scottie "Upshaw" re-signed.

So far the offseason is going swimmingly, hockey relations-wise.

Doesn't a one year deal mean Upshall will be an UFA next off-season? If so, that would put PHX in the predicament as they are in currently with Lombardi and Michalek. And thus, I would guess the short-term aspect of his deal was Upshall's idea, no?

Well hopefully by next year the ownership issues will be solved and the Yotes will have the money to actually give him a long term deal and not have to worry about this kind of stuff.

New ownership notwithstanding, he's going to be tough to re-sign next year (I believe the earliest they can begin negotiating is January). I suspect he got ~$2M in this deal. Unrestricted status could push that number up to $3M even without any improvement in performance IMO.

GMDM's hands must *really* be tied budget-wise to agree to a single year deal.

Upshall also injured himself and that played a role in the deal he got.

Either way, any money saved on Upshall hopefully helps in getting Wolski signed to a multi year deal (who was acquired as an eventual Lombardi replacement IMO).

Good signing, basically the repeat reasoning from last year. Give him another year (hopefully a healthy one ) to prove he can earn good money around here.

Yeah that's what I don't think people are seeing, Wolski was brought in to replace Mueller, not anyone else.

Lombardi IMO is top priority for players needed to be signed.

I'm pretty sure both parties were very willing to do a 1 year deal. Scottie wants that multi-year deal, and Maloney wants a full season out of him. Call last season a mulligan and give it another go while he's still young. The UFA thing isn't as ominous as it seems with Upshall. He sounds like he's nothing but a reasonable, fair, hard working young man. He was put in Tippetts dog house early in the year for bad penalties, and responded. He didn't sulk or question his place on this team.

Even IF he goes far and beyond next year and plays out of our budget... I'll be very happy for him wherever he goes.

Upshall-Doan-Wolski or Lombardi to replace Doan in center.

We need to resign Lombo as a priority. If we get no help from the the dynamic prospects we have to rely on Lombo, Wolski, and Upshall. I'm really happy that Upshall is safe. Now on to the next ones. I'm still thinking that GMDM will have a surprise pickup or two.

Last one was 1.5 if I recall. And before that he was getting about 1.2, I believe.
