They did make major trades if not FA signings to win in 96 and 2001, pretty much the same thing when we are talking about adding players to improve the team.

Back in those days avs did have players good enough to trade for bigger names , for example Deadmarsh for Blake etc.. and there was no cap.

Right now the avs need to improve and add players to the rebuilding block through free agency.

Building a team through free agency hardly ever works out. The Avs are wise from staying away.

Signing Free Agent Craig Anderson last season helped our team a bit I hope we sign 1 or 2 players this off-season.

I would hardly call Craig Anderson a "big name" free agent. That signing was great because it was low risk. If Andy didn't pan out his contract was for a small cap hit and he'd be gone in two years anyway.

What big name free agents have the Avs signed that were wildly successful here?

There aren't many bright spots on the list. Looking back at the list in hindsight Brunette, Laperriere and Anderson are the only signings that I like.

Tucker
Smyth
Arnason
Laperriere
Brunette
Hlinka
Laaksonen
Ledin
Turgeon
Koci
May

Tjarnqvist
Hannan
Brisebois
Klee

Raycroft
Anderson

Dude, the quicker you realize there's no use arguing with someone as ignorant as him, the better. Don't quote any of his posts unless they sway a little from his normal genre, because by now he's just trying to get a rise out of us, there's no other reason for him to do the doomsday thing in a thread as irrelevant as the Dupuis contract thread.

Yeah, let's not get confusing trades with FA signings. We haven't had hardly any good ones, and the ones we did have that were good didn't lead to any championships.

Forsberg-trade
Blake-trade
Roy-trade
Bourque-trade

Those are the main components of the Stanley Cup winners that weren't home grown.

Forsberg's time spent with Philly after he was drafted was nil. The Avs might not have drafted him, but I consider more home grown than not.

This is the reason I'm so terrified to buy an O'Reilly jersey. I like the kid and the way he plays and all that.....but I can totally see him being the main chip in a deal to bring a top winger.....I would hate seeing him go but I'm realistic. Getting a 1st liner for a 3rd line center....I'd take the 1st line wing every time. Even if the kid is 19.

Yeah I know, but technically he was still a trade, so I throw him in that group just to give the_fan a little barking room.

So that plan is sign all this no name players into small contracts, save the money for rainy day, and man, it is going to rain on the avs season next year when they do finish somewhere in the bottom of the standings and perhaps then, or i should say hopefully then they will realize that you kinda need some above average players to win in the NHL.

Maybe the avs think Sacco is some kind of a coach magician who's going to win in the NHL with an AHL roster
so if the avs dont finish in the bottom 3 like you are pretty much guaranteeing will you just delete you account so no one has to see this in every other thread

I love how a signing of an AHL forward gets some people so worked up.

Ah, true. Forgot that the age requirement was as young as 25 now.
