That anyone is in love with him is mystifying.

Here's another stick squeeze:

Why can't a veteran center be brought in to win draws? Like I said before, there are players out there willing to take paycuts to play for good teams. Last time I checked, the Flyers made it to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Carter can do all of those things you said above yes, but he's only one guy. The return for this one guy can bring us in a goalie and future prospects.
Playing with a bum shoulder (a big deal when the primary element of your game is a wrist shot), and still probably our most dangerous forward most games... just getting robbed by MAF. He was also effective defensively in that series, which Richards was not.

More devil's advocate... what good is a 40 goal scorer when he's hurt in the playoffs (two seasons in a row now)?

If you can learn to predict injuries, you should move to Vegas. Especially broken bones, which are entirely unpredictable.

This NOT robbery. It is Chokery.

And it is not discernable at all from his choke last night.

I'm not predicting anything. I'm implying that now we have two years in a row where this 40 goal scorer couldn't find the net because of injuries.

Again, I'm not here to insist that I want Carter gone or that he stinks. I'm just here defending why it isn't all that crazy of an idea. In any deal for Jeff Carter, the Flyers MUST get more out of the deal, but at least acknowledge that it's possible to get done if the right team was contacted.

See Jeff Carter's career NHL playoff stats here:

http://flyers.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8470604

41 games
12 goals
7 assists
-11

Not Godlike.

In all honesty though, none of us really have a clue what's going to happen. Hopefully Lavi will have a voice in all of the offseason planning and maybe Holmgren can find a way to get s*it done.

It had to be very hard for Lavoiette to coach a team built for John Stevens to coach. Will be interesting to see how these guys enter next season under a decent coach for a change.

He's absolutely been a playoff disappointment this far, but there have been plenty of players in the league that had disappointing playoffs early in their career only to go on to be better later. I don't think we should just give up on him because of that. In his first season he was a rookie, his second playoffs he was okay, but not spectacular, the last two playoffs he's been a disappointment, but has also been injured. I'd like to see what he could do when healthy before declaring him as a playoff bust.

Which goalies would you trade straight up for him? Being realistic here, you'd never a top 10 goalie straight up for him.

I really thought he would redeem himself after last year. He managed to fail even more epicly.

Trade him if a good goalie deal appears.

If you also go back to the 08 playoffs (the only ones where Carter was healthy), Carter was one of our best, most consistent forwards for that entire run.

I remember in December and January when everyone wanted to trade him and the guy was the best player on the ice most nights until he got hurt, going at a goal-per-game pace for a while. The team coming apart in March and April coincided with injuries to he and Leighton.

Well he is our most tradeable commodity. If anyone of significance gets dealt it will be him. I would be surprised if he goes, but he's not untouchable IMO.

If we can keep JC and solve the goalie situation, fine by me. But if we go with another 1 mill a year scrub in net while Carter stinks up the joint, I will be livid. Hurt or not, he needed to be better, which he proved he was capable of in the 3rd period!! So I do not buy the whole he was so injured he could not contribute.

it seems to me that his trade value is incredibly high

i dont want him on this team, been saying that for 3 years, but you dont just give him away. get a nice young player or a couple nice players in return and im all for it. if not teach him how to play like a man and use his assets

lets be honest...we cant trade danny...wont trade mike or claude..and have betts..thats 4 centers...theyre not huge but this isnt the 90's anymore that big center ship has sorta sailed. none of those centers can play wing..especially carter, so someones odd man out

...just a side note to whoever says don trade your best faceoff guy...lets be real here, being the best faceoff guy for the flyers is like being the best player on the new jersey nets....doesnt mean anything haha (i laugh but faceoffs have been a big key to us losing the last 3 playoffs, and its really annoying that we suck so bad at them)

ps would LOVE to get bobby ryan somehow

I agree. Richards, Briere, Giroux, Betts is fine by me down the middle. I don't see big centers on Chicago, Detroit or Washington being their strength. I think skill over size in the new NHL. We need to improve on faceoffs.

Who's he play over?

Our captain/best player, Mike Richards?
Our best playoff player, Danny Briere?
Or our soon-to-be superstar, Claude Giroux?

Unless you want to either move one of the above, or play Carter on a 4th line, we can't fit him in. Simple as that.

You can't trade him. Regardless of what he does in the post season, he carries the team through a lot of the regular season. He plays solid defense and he can score. You don't trade him unless you get something ridiculous back.
