Carter?

Hitch on the Flyers Web Site:

Q. Do you bring Seidenberg now?
KEN HITCHCOCK: Actually we're bringing a lot of players now. We've taken [Antero] Niittymaki, Seidenberg, [John] Slaney, [Randy] Jones, [Boyd] Kane, [Jeff] Carter , and Kirby Law.

Of course he's a rookie and probably wont see ice time for a couple years, but I know there is a part of every Flyers fan here who would love to see him play in the NHL for the Stanley cup.

Why Boyd Kane? Seriously? Why Boyd Kane and not someone like MacNeil or Peluso who have been around the NHL before. I see why not Eager or Ruzicka, but Boyd Kane? We already have Brashear and Fedoruk who take a lot of penalties....

Hitchcock likes the name. (See: Frank Nitti), Boyd Kane just has a cool sound to it. Say it again.

I didn't see any of the Phantom games against the Pens, but I listened to a few on the radio. Carter played regular shifts throughout the games and was on the ice for defensive draws in crucial situations. Stevens obviously felt he was performing well enough to warrant the ice time.

If the organization has anything next season (if we have one), it's choices at center ice, and Carter seems like he's going to be tough to send back to junior.

Kane works his butt off, and he plays relatively good defence. Like you said however, he takes penalties.

I doubt Kane sees the ice unless something catastrophic happens.

sounds like the Simpsons' softball episode where the power plant softball ringers got hurt. Burns was like "two or three emergencies is likely, four or five--that's possible, but nine emergencies"

He is the captain of the Phantoms and I think they plan on bringing him back next year. It looks like they want to win and bringing Kane along for the experience may be able to help his leadership skills down the road. Don't jump all over Hitch just cause he is bringing someone along. It doesn't mean he'll play and even if he does he'll have more of an "impact" than Peluso or MacNeil would

Carter can't play with his current ATO contract. I think it's possible that he could be signed to a regular contract, and would then be eligible, but am not sure.

He suffered a concussion in the OHL playoffs. I understand that he's fine now, but both the doctors and his agent recommended that he not play for the Phantoms in the post-season this year. The last I heard, he is travelling and practising with the Flyers.

Thats a shame, would have been nice to see how he performed.

he can play up to five nhl games on the tryout contract, anymore and he would have to be signed...that said, not a chance he plays...
