Ryan Malone

Bob Mackenzie said on am 990(radio station) that Ryan Malone should be dealt(he is on the chopping block) before July 1st

What do you think we can get for him..... only involving Malone coming from us

I dont see any reason why we would be trading him..

But anyway if he's moved i think he is going to be a part of a larger package.

I love Malone but for cap space (even more so) and maybe a couple of assets I think he is our most expendable asset that holds any value.

I wouldnt be surprised to see like 2nd round pick (since we dont have one this year)+good prospect or young NHL player in return.

I have been saying Malone to the Habs for Price. Or something along those being the two main pieces.

I think the draft is going to be pretty interesting for us.

Malone makes 4.5 million until 2015. A pretty hefty amount for what he brings.

Also keep in mind that Ryan's dad, Greg, is the head scout. Yzerman may want to get his own guy for that job, therefore if he kept Ryan, it may be a bit odd.

When you say McKenzie said he should be dealt, did he say it in a way that was of his own opinion, or was he conveying what's going on?

I really hope he stays but I guess he's a good bait or center piece in a bigger trade for a puck moving defender or a #1 goaltender. I still don't think we are able to afford losing him. Our top6 is already missing at least another good winger and Malone - if injury-free - is a beast in front of the net and a great character. Really hope it stays a rumor.

With the way we had trouble scoring goals last year the last thing we need to be doing is dumping ****ers off our top six.

Exactly. Dumping Bugsy would be dumping 20 or so goals immediately for next season. Good consistent production isn't something you trade away easily.

Exactly. He was on pace for a 40+ goal season before he was dropped down to the 2nd and 3rd line subject to Tocchet's whim and later got injured. During the first half of the season we all saw his potential and how important he is for this team. And we're still missing another true top6 winger so why should we cast off another winger?

Only would do it if we get a very good puck-moving defense-man or #1 goaltender.

I'm glad someone gets it, yet people still think we can just move Malone out and stick an 18 year old kid in his place on Vinnys wing and everything will be just fine.

6'4 220 pound forwards with great hands, capable of brawling, and capable of playing any position in your top nine that are as consistent as Ryan Malone are ****ing R.A.R.E. RARE.

I'll admit, I dont think for a second that he would hit 40, its somewhat unreasonable for him, but if he kept up on Stammers line 30 was well in sight. These guys don't grow on trees, people!

Neither do I, I was just making a point. He was performing so damn well until Tocchet tried to spark dead lines by moving Bugsy around the lineup - often changing his linemates several times during a single game. And then he got injured... But 30 goals could very well be in reach for him and his qualities in front of the net are among the top10 league-wide.

How about this from Colorado for Malone?

Liles and 2010 3rd round

Yzerman will probably give you a better answer. Mckenzie is just reporting there's a good chance Malone will be dealt by the end of the month.

I've never liked Malone's contract, but I'm weary of trading the only big body in the top 6 that's willing to go to the net on a regular basis.

Unless we have someone who can jump right in and take his spot, (and we don't) I don't see why you'd move a 20-25 goal scorer with all those intangibles. I'm not totally against it, but it depends on what's coming back.

I think it's not so much that we could afford to lose him. It seems to me that in order to get a goalie like Cary Price or someone, we have to give up something. As much as I like Malone, I would rather give the $$ to Stamkos, Downie, Hedman and so on going forward. Malone is a great asset to this team, but if we are going to go into a process of re-building he is stopping a kid from getting a chance to step up.

I'd rather trade Malone for a young goalie, young top 6 forward or a future top 4 D, over the #6 pick.

I just feel Malone's name makes sense because he has value, and isn't Martin St.Louis or Vinny. Who else does this team really have of value to move for the future?

I like Malone as much as everyone else, but I'd rather him not be stuck in the 3rd line at his price tag if Vinny ends up with more chemistry without him.

For years we had trouble to get a strong top six now when we are starting to get it all together, we should ship away a top liner? Doesn't make any sense

Malone is one of the few guys that goes in front of the net, and is a strong presence on the ice, who is good enough to fill his spot?

who is going to play with Vinny if he leaves ? I'll be really afraid if we have a rookie on his line

Really? Downie as a rookie sure helped Stamkos/everyone.

Wouldnt mind seeing Tyrell have a go in the top 6, Vinnys line would be good, or imagine the speed of a Tyrell-Stamkos-St. Louis line
