Looks like good signing. No idea which kind of player he is. I try to figure it out(from some Elitserien fans) and maybe tell something to you guys.

Of course, if some swede would like to tell about him then stage is yours

Okay some info:

- Fan's favorite

- Hard working winger

- Fantastic attitude

- Size is the biggest weakness. Size made some problems in the World Championships.

Third-fourth line winger, maybe?

interesting, thanks...3LW is up grabs now, so it doesnt hurt adding him to the mix

talent analysis from 3 years ago....

The undersized 5’10 winger combines excellent speed and technical skills in a very impressive way. Pettersson is strong while entering the offensive zone in full speed and has a very good slap shot, which he does not hesitate to use. In addition to being a quite productive player point wise, he has also proven to be a good leader and willing to play physical.

Great...If there's anywhere the Thrashers have a need, it's 3rd and 4th liners.

Doesn't Klingberg play with Frolunda too?

EDIT: Here's a link to his stats. He's small, but had a breakout year this past season.

There is a write-up in Red Line Report on him and it's a good one. Says he's physical for his size and he picks up garbage goals. He was a 5th round pick by the Oilers 5 years ago and spent the first 2 years with Calgary in the WHL (Postma?).

Enstrom, Oduya, Bergfors, Hedberg, Klingberg, Pettersson.

They might start selling Swedish Meatballs at Philips.

Seems like a solid two way forward, which is always a nice addition to a roster.

This may be a stretch, but maybe, after this signing, there are plans evolving for that 24th pick?

Assets: A fast skater and an excellent forechecker. Plays an intense and tough game despite his size. Good stickhandler and passer. Has a quick shot. Possesses a terrific work ethic and agitator qualities. A very good teammate. Captain material.
Flaws: The lack of size and strength can hold him back at times. That in combination with his gung-ho style could lead to injury problems in the future.

Pettersson scores a hat trick (#10 in white):

Pettersson scores with the two-man advantage (2008 playoffs):

Seems like this move fills the 3rd line LW spot. I hope he can play on the PK. I could see the 3rd line being Petterson-Reasoner/Slater/Machacek for this season.

yeah, as of now its a possibility..although i still prefer the reasoner-thor 4th line combo...it'd be nice to snag another LEGIT 3C like cullen, lombardi etc..or have Pevs play there and get a LEGIT 2c.

however it ends up, this is a good depth/competition move.

If we end up with Johansen or Granlund at the draft, do you think they could play in the NHL? I think Granlund won't, but Johansen? I honestly have no idea of him.

If we look our lines RW would be the best option to us to draft. Brett Connolly?

Lines:

Bergfors-Antropov-Little
Kane-Peverley/"Johansen"-"Connolly"/X
Pettersson-Cormier/Peverley-Machacek/Klingberg
Slater-Reasoner-Thorburn

And without alternatives:

Bergfors-Antropov-Little
Kane-Peverley-Connolly
Pettersson-Cormier-Machacek
Slater-Reasoner-Thorburn

Maybe UFA third line right winger?

i typically dont expect 1st rounders outside of the top few picks to come in and contribute...there are always exceptions, but even last year, outside of the top4, how many stuck the hole year?..only Kulikov off the top of my head.

it doesnt mean #8 cant stick, i'd just be very surprised with this years crop.

A year ago Johansen was playing in the BCHL. Before his meteoric rise in the second half of the season he was a fringe WHL'er. Fast Forward to the end of the WHL playoffs and he's arguably the top offensive weapon on the Winterhawks. If he can continue to trend upwards at such a steep rate, who knows, there might be a shot for him to play in the NHL, although its far more reasonable to expect him to dominate the WHL for another year and then make the jump.

I wouldn't mind us picking him, but I'm a little leery about how substantial his progression is and how long it can be maintained at the rate he is going at right now. Will it temper and wear off, or will he just continue to get better. Because of that uncertainty I would almost prefer to go for Granlund and get our playmaker, pick Nino if he drops, or maybe risk it on Connolly, who if he gets his injury problems sorted out could be a future 1st line player for us. I'd also like to see us take a crack at one of the D man expected to go in the top 15 if the forwards just don't impress us.

Kane-Antropov-Bergfors
UFA-Peverley-Little
Petterson-Slater-Machachek
Thorburn-Reasoner-Cormier

i still have a gut feeling that CMac returns...qualify him cheap for 1yr, i'm kind of assuming that was the gameplan with him, hence the 2 picks. he'll at least come relatively cheap.

how old is he?

Is he really better than what we have on the 3rd line coming from the SEL? I doubt this is our only move this offseason.
