he turned 23 June 10th.

who knows, thats why we have scouts..and yeah, its pretty obvious more moves will be made.

Congrats Atlanta fans. A very exciting player to watch. Definitely a fan favorite if he continues to improve.

Hey, I'm happy to hear this! I liked Pettersson, he's got lots of speed and works hard, he's just one of those "tweeners", ie. not good enough offensively to be in the top six but small so he's not quite made for the checking line. Sort of a Petr Prucha type, post his rookie season. Prucha found a good spot on the third line in Phoenix so I hope Pettersson can manage the same sort of thing.

Pettersson's defensive positioning overall isn't great. On the PK, he tends to leave his d-man uncovered and go down to help out in the slot, trying to do too much.

He also causes quite a bit of turnovers in the neutral zone.

I am a bit scared the way our team is becoming more and more Swedish... just kidding.

Seems like a good signing and the other Swedes here are also good so .

Seems this may be jumping the gun a bit.

There is a report out of Sweden that the Thrashers have signed winger Fredrick Pettersson of the Swedish Elite League. He has not been signed, that much I know for sure. The Thrashers have spoken to his agent, so there is some interest, but at this point nothing has been completed. I will continue to check on this and update as appropriate.
From Viv the Thrashers beat writer.

maybe an insurance option if cormier/klingberg can't make the team this season.

Looks like Nicklas Lasu isn't coming to NA though, Systemfel says he resigned with Frolunda.

Despite report, Thrashers have not signed Fredrick Pettersson of Swedish Elite League. They have spoken to agent but no deal has be reached. - AJC

Yea, but every other signing of SEL players this season has been reported as confirmed days before the NHL teams announce it. Tomorrow is the deadline for NHL teams to signing contracted Swedes so I'll bet tomorrow by noon there will be a press release on the Thrashers website.

Yes but, It specifically says there is no deal in place. They talked. We are talking. Does that mean i should go spread the word you are giving your soul to me?

I got to know him fairly well while he was part of Edmonton's system. Terrific guy and about as far from the stereotype of the soft Euro player as you can get. Loved his attitude about playing in the WHL as opposed to staying in Sweden too.

I wrote this is April and mentioned him then. http://thepipelineshow.blogspot.com/...-mistakes.html

Great analogy... There have been several similar instances where these sites have interviewed player who said that the contract was signed, the next day the NHL team deny any contract being signed, and announce it the day after.

They might start selling Swedish Meatballs at Philips.

Seems like a solid two way forward, which is always a nice addition to a roster.

And Lasu! Lasu is very physical btw..

Was the Oilers mistake not signing him or drafting him

It was called a mistake by many fans because he returned to Sweden but to me the fault was Edmonton's. They ran out of NHL contracts, offered him an AHL only deal which he obviously declined since he could make more cash back home. He went back, played well and has now (or will soon) be back in the NHL.

900,000$ two-way contract with a 180,000$ signing bonus, was signed on Sunday. Atlanta have been in contact with Pettersson since before the World Championships started.

Thanks for the link. I put a google translation up on my blog.
I thought he might mention that being a teammate with Klingberg played a role. Sounds like Atlanta was aggressive in their pursuit of him.
